At almost 8lbs, it's best utillity would be in wetland blind or a boat. I would get it painted over in advantage wetland camo. But still, recoil will be stiff with 3" mags (or is it 3.5"?) and you lose the third shot. If you must have an O/U, and aren't going to carry it, go for it.

Give me a Benelli SBE or give me a fishing rod.

Thank you all so much for your replys. I will check out some other models and see what I can find. I would not mind going with a good quality autoloader but I can not find one in SS finish. Maybe I am wierd for wanting such an animal?

I would choose a high quality autoloader and have it finished in NP3, gunkote, or somesuch aftermarket coating that's very rustproof if that's the route you need. There are no stainless autoloaders on the market right now. Check out the custom 1911 market for the best of aftermarket finishes.

I found a few other O/U that I like that are not stainless. I have given up on that one. What do you think of the following models and selection? Curious to see what someone else has to say about these:

Beretta - 686 Ringneck
Winchester - Supreme® Select, Field
Remington Model 332
Browning - Citori 535 Field

These are the autoloaders I am considering:

Remington - Model 1100™ Sporting
Browning - Gold Upland Special
Beretta - AL391 Urika
Benelli - M1 Model 11000

Comments? I would be using it for all around, target shooting, blasting some crows on my friends farm, some upland, and possibly might eventually try some clays but don't know if I have the eyes for them.

I've got a Browning white lighting 12 with 28" barrells and also a remington Ideal 300 with 26" barrells I like them both I shoot them both about equal the Browning fits me better, the Remington tends to beat my face up a little. Personnally I buy what fits and feels the best, thats my 2 cents worth. Bryan

A month or so ago I was WWW sporting clays and after shooting there walked over to their skeet range for a couple rounds. Two other men pulled up so I now had someone to shoot with. They both break out new Ruger O/U's.The first one shot both barrels at the same time, every time. The other man's Ruger would only shoot the bottom barrel. Both guns went back in their Blazer.Out comes a couple of Citori's and we shoot skeet. They ain't happy. So I guess if you own Rugers you best carry back-ups.As a side note, they were brothers.

I have a Benelli M1 Field 20g. At only 5.8lbs it carries great and the 26bbl swings well. If you want the 12g it weighs 7.3lbs. It is a very versatile gun. From optional in-stock recoil reducer to self defense extended mag tubes to pistol grip stocks, I think it is the most utilitarian option. It also has no messy gas action to clean. Synthetic stocks are worry free. Wood furniture is availabe. If Benelli's good enough for the marines...

Stay away from the O/U's if you dislike recoil or want the third shot. If clays will be your choice however, the ported Browning 525 is a very sweet gun.

The softest shooting gun listed is the Beretta 391 because of its fore-end gas bleed off system. I have not owned one but I understand some elements of cleaning and takedown are not entirely easy.

I had a terrible experience with the Beretta 686 line. I will never buy another one. See the Fabarm post.

i own a red label 20 ***** and i could not be more happy with it. i did an extensive search about the quality of this firearm before i purchased it and i found nothing that would lead me to believe that there are that many problems with the gun. the only complaint that i heard from each of the five gun dealers that i went to was the weight of the gun. my 20 ***** weighs 7.25 pounds-that is not real heavy. the weight would actually reduce recoil as i understand it but only shooting it in a 20 gauge recoil is not a concern to me anyway. i would say functionally wise there as good as any gun i have ever shot

Scott, I briefly owned a new 12ga. Ruger Red Label in Syn/ Stainless Steel. From day one it would not fire the top barrel after firing the bottom barrel first. This would occur approximately 5 to 7 % of the time with no ryhme nor reason as to why or when it would occur. Hey, I didn't spend $1200 for a single shot gun. Sent it back to Ruger, they replaced some parts (strut assemblies etc.) and shipped it back to me. Half way through the first box of skeet loads to test functioning . . the gun still malfunctioned as if no one fixed anything. Long story short, I traded it in on a Shadowgrass Cammoed 12Ga. Winchester SX2. The Winchester has not missed a beat. Have a look at the SX2, most people like them. Just one persons experiences. (Oh, I also have a Browning Citori 12ga. that has never missed a beat.)

I love my 20 ga. & 28 ga. Rugers. I tried all the other brands I could find and shoot. The Rugers just fit me best. I still shoot my Citori in 12 ga. but have shot the Ruger 12 and I do not see and difference in the kick that everyone seems to express. As for it being a heavy gun, I don't really get it. I am 195 lbs and you are talking about the difference of a few ounces, well maybe 8 ozs. I think everyone should shoot the gun that fits them best and not what fits someone else. I have met a lot of people shooting Rugers and they have not had any more trouble with there guns, so they say, me included, than any other brand. It is not the nut holding the gun together that hits the clays, Its the one holding the gun.

I have both the 12 & 20ga. Rugers. Love them, no problems with them so far. Had the 12ga. since 1994 and just picked up the 20ga. this year. Keith

Just bought a new Red Label today(12ga.)---dealer put 3 new ones on the rack yesterday----all 3 are absolutely beautifull(mine is one of the 3 BTW)-------they made the older Red Labels they had look like sorry pieces indeed.

Wondering if this is a new trend with Ruger putting spectacular wood on Red Labels again---or just a fluke or coincidence???

Everybody likes what they like, and hate what they hate. Everyone has there favorite, I like Berettas, shot them all my life. I hate Remington, I think they look like a big piece of crap.
Someof the best guns I have had are crap like American Arms, Huglu/Armsco....just got a 28ga SXS from them,,great gun. My point is there are good and bad in every manufactures line.....shoot what you want and get rid of it if you dont like it.
