Well Huglu gang, my road bike days are officially over. I sold the Trek Dommone SL6 Disc today. That lady who bought it is a road biker, her and her husband stopped by and picked it up. Really loved that bike

Lot of hours on the road with it, thousands of miles, not a scratch or mark on it. Just could not take the risk of taking a tumble on it and really screwing up my artificial knees.

Didn't you ever worry about screwing up your real knees, shoulders, collar bones, head?

My kid and I rode the Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour this past weekend. 90 miles around Lake Pepin on antique English 3 speed bikes. We both rode DL1 Roadsters, I don’t know how many more years I can pull that off, but, we have been doing it for 12 years, and we ain’t done yet. The kid was 5 the first year we did it, 16, now. Maybe it isn’t on a bike, but, find something.

Find something to keep the blood pressure low.

Nice bike. I have a Domane also, but a 9 year old one before the disc brakes. Only a guy that loves his bike would shell out for carbon rims. The egg beaters and extra bottle cages tell me that you spend a lot of time in the saddle. I'm not too old (yet) but riding keeps me moving, gets my blood circulating, etc... I also enjoy the peace and quiet of riding.

But I understand why you sold it. I hope you find something to replace it with that give the same benefits of cycling.
Get an e mtn bike and hit some easy trails. Still a fun way to get out there!

Head was protected by a helmet, really good one. But with those long screws holding the joint in place, should I break that bone, or the one holding the top part on, that would be a very major repair, one I would really not look forward to. Dr advised against it. Gonna shoot more sporting clays, joined an indoor handgun range, they also have a bow and arrow range. Will have to dust off the compound bow and get back into bow shooting. Maybe travel more, and complete my 50 state sporting clays adventure.

Got it ya don't wanna fly over the handlebars the simple easy solution to continue your pedaling is a trike….don't poo poo the idea no grocery getter 3 wheeler with a basket check out the awesome high performance trikes from the CATRIKE company made in Florida...safe, reliable, and a blast to ride...you will NOT be disappointed pretty sure you’ll declare “I should have done this a long time ago”! They're great hill climbers (no wandering back 'n forth) my 30 speed, disc brake ultra comfortable Catrike Trail eats up flat trails 'n roads with ease.

Interesting. I'm 67 and have two Ducati's in the garage. One a '12 MTS, which I've put 120,000+ miles on (in 9 yrs) and my 'project' bike, which is a '07 MTS 1100S which I put a Panigale fairing on (that bike is SWEET!!!!). Last year, my brother had a little tip over, at around 45, and ****ed himself all up..collarbone broken in 4 places, shoulder blade in 5 places, 5 broken ribs, fractured arm and elbow + rotator cuff torn to hell. I'm thinking it might be safer to just cheek the Zoli at sporting clays and play Chopin and Beethoven at the piano.
I need to get back on the road and drop some weight.

My racing days are over, but it was fun. As for crashing, my ortho says riding is one of the best exercises for my Ti hip.

Put it on a track stand!
Put it on a track stand!

I have a bicycle in the basement on a trainer stand, a cheap $300.00 12 speed. I ride it once a day, and I ride a Schwinn 270 recumbent exercise bike 90 minutes a day, 45 in the morning, and 45 after supper, or there about, sometimes it is more like 21:00 before I get around to it.

"track stand" is when a rider balances the bike, clipped into the pedals, perfectly still. Waiting for the race to start, track racers just take off from a standing stop.

I think you mean rollers or a trainer. But that's a full up carbon Trek and the aero wheels that cost more than some Huglus. Putting it on a trainer would be like turning a Kreighoff into a wall hanger after giving up Trap.

Nah, let someone else enjoy it, use the money for something enjoyable, ride a more upright gravel bike or something like that.

I have a rim brake Domane. I’m not sure when I bought it but the disk brake model had just came out.

I'm only 58 (its a state of mind!) and I have my share of two wheeled toys. I got rid of my BMW street bike a few years ago because its dangerous, but I have the dirt-bike, road bike, mountain bike and recently acquired an eMtb. I've been under the knife more than a few times because of my misadventures. I can't take my shirt off at the beach without people staring at the scars, so I don't anymore.

I have no immediate plans to stop.

The orthopedist says to stay safe, but keep doing it. They will put me back together as many times as they need to. I've tested him on that and he's lived up to it so far. The surgeon says its better to go the hospital because you're doing too much as opposed to going to the hospital because you aren't doing anything. Thats when you got real problems.

Kudos to everybody that stays active. Ride a motorcycle, ride a bike, or walk the sporting clays course... just keep moving!
Here in Indy, bicyclists, and walkers are targets, they have caught on camera people driving cars on the walking, roller blading, cycle riding trails, (because due to construction the roads are backed up) Do they arrest them Nooooooo, they put up big concrete barricades, every so often that people, cyclists & joggers have to maneuver around so the cars can't drive on them.

There are 30 bikes at my house. More if you count parts bikes, in the shed. 3 speed English stuff is obsolete, so, my parts come from Craig’s List, usually as ladies bikes.

This, is different. 1989 FJ1200, many, many updates, piped, jetted, braced, upgraded brakes and forks, the most fun available while wearing clothing. Not for sale yet, but, someday, it will have to go. Might be the best two up touring bike ever conceived, and no slouch one up, blasting up an exit ramp. My kid has a thing for it.

hey i feel your pain, have an older 12 speed, speed not needed. still gets me 10-12 miles when we get out. stay safe, keep moving...dan
I have a 17 Trek Domane SLR6 (disc) and love that bike. I ride road bike to train for MTB'ing. I like the mental clarity 30-50 miles on the bike with headphones and sunshine gives me. I'm blessed to have hundreds of miles of bike path to ride so I don't have to deal with vehiles. After a few decades as a cop and the road bike v car accidents; biking with the general public on roadways is horrifying. I feel much safer bombing through the woods and hammering rock gardens on a MTB than on the road with cars.

I understand the feelings on the knee. I need a left (dominant) knee replacement. Luckily I ride pretty hard and only get tightness and swelling. Nothing over the top painful.

After cataract surgery this morning, I decided this was the best advise I would ever get, so I took your advise, and spent some of the money on this

New 30 inch Beretta A400 Xcel Sporting, 7 pounds 10.8 ounces, can't wait to get it out to the SC course next week.

Thanks for the great advise❗❗❗ :) :) :)
