I don’t need a new shotgun. I want one. There isn’t a shotgun event that I’m not covered in, clays to upland to waterfowl. I have autos and pumps and semis and sxs and o/u. 20/16/12 in multitude of formats.

doing more waterfowl now than in years past. But making 2 trips to SDa year, trying to do 3. Doves and tame birds locally.

What should I buy? Thinking a new auto. Have Beretta 391 and a synthetic A300 for ducks in 12. A Tristar Viper G2 in a 20.

Fabarm L4S Grey Hunter?

M2 or SBE in synthetic?

Montefeltro?

Silver Montefeltro?

A400?

what else is out there I should look at?
Only requirement is 12 and Auto.

after your recommendations watch me go grab a new A5 in 16….

Seems like you know enough to answer your own questions.

A400 Extreme Plus {I really am fond of mine and here is why I like it so much}

a) Choose the finish of your liking. [wood, camo pattern of your desire, black]
b) Best barrel tech and pattern production today [imo]
c) Kick off system means it will be pleasant no matter what you shoot up to 3 1/2"
d) drilled and tapped receiver if you wanted to utilize a red dot or such
e) adjustability with the shims to make it fit you

What are you planning to use the gun for? That would have a be influence I what I would buy. I usually bought guns for 2 different reasons.

1 it was something I had a reason for buying. A sporting clays gun, a pheasant gun, a waterfowl gun, a deer gun.

2 it was a good deal. A clean Wingmaster for $150 or a pair of Citoris for $900.

If I didn't know what I wanted, I would save my money and wait till I needed something or stumbled into a smoking deal.

Decisions decisions.
Thanks for the input guys.

A 28 is definitely on the shortlist too.

Somebody said I should wait until I know what I’ll use it for before buying. That would make sense. But so would have not buying any after I was a senior in high school with a new 870. That would have served me well for my entire life. No fun in that though.

How about a good Turkey or predator shotgun.

I would get a Mossberg 940 now days but I bought a 930 new for $600. After a good cleaning this gun runs just as good and fast as shotguns costing 3 times as much and is a hammer with TSS but what isn’t lol. With no4 TSS it’s a 70 yard coyote gun and will just devastate a gobbler out to at least that range.

IMO setup the way I set it up it’s a specialty gun.

I'll second or third the auto 5. The feel and shooting experience is pretty unique and there is gobs of nostalgia there. Add in they are dead nuts reliable, as long as you pick the right one for your purpose (2 3/4 or magnum) and not terribly expensive, tho they have escalated like everything else.

I think they are kind of like 1911s...everyone should have one. But once you get one, sometimes you end up with 4 :) What a coincidence, designed by the same guy.

I’ve worked off and on in Northern Utah 6 months at a time, 3 different times, driven by the Browning museum twice a week each time on my way to the airport. Every time I work out there I run my mouth about needing to go through it and haven’t yet. The guy was a genius. Have a 1911, a pair of 1885s, and my grandpas Savage 745 (traded a bucket of tomatoes to him to get it…), but maybe I need the real deal….
