I went to Scheels this weekend and saw they had a large stock of lead shot at $30 per 25# bag. That seems much more reasonable than what was available at Cabelas and other retailers as of a few months ago.

Thoughts?

$30 is about right. Cabelas, Gander Mtn, etc. add a lot more markup...
I would assume a big box store like Scheels is going to add quite a bit of markup too. They have similar selection and prices on all other products in their shooting department.

So the real question is: Is Scheels just cheaper than everyone else or is this an indication that big box stores will be dropping prices?

The only way to get lower-priced shot in the big stores is to buy all the high-priced shot they currently have in stock, and hope as they replace it with lower-priced shot they will decide to sell it for less. Perhaps Scheel's simply had less of the high-priced stuff in stock and was able to pass on the savings sooner than the rest.

So get busy, will ya? Go buy some high-priced shot from Gander Mountain, cuz I'm running low and I can't afford anything more than $30/bag.

I'd grab it at $30 - around here, even the wally world is at $50/bag

I was just at Midwestern Shooter's Supply in Lomira, WI, which is very close to Mayville (as in MEC!), last Friday and shot was still a disappointing $35/bag. Esp. disappointing because I'd heard the price should be coming down. I'm holding off 'til it gets cheaper (I hope) and will shot more 28 ga. and .410 'til then!

Gander and Cabela's around here are always obscenely high priced! I don't get it. They can buy in large quantity, right? Shouldn't they get and then give a better price? A small town ACE Hardware store nearby has better prices on most components AND guns then the big stores. Old wooden floors, small town atmosphere, one of my favorite places in which to wile away an hour or so.

I wish I could get it for $30 a bag...

You can buy shot at Walmart? We have one little glass case with ammo at our walmart...
Of the 3 we have in this area, one carries MEC reloaders, wads, powder, shot - everything for shotgun and metallic - the others carry cleaning supplies and a few promo packs - but t $50 - they've outpriced Gander Mtn - and that's typically hard to do!

My club just got a ton of Eagle # 9 @ $29.00/bag....at least I didn't have to drive a distance to buy some. :|
