Shotgun malfunctioning?

434 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Worc
I bought a 12 ***** model 11-87 shotgun and am having a problem. I don't know if if the shotgun is malfunctioning. It it more likely user error. On several occasions I have loaded several shells into the magazine then the shells back up under (I think it is called) the Carrier Release. These are my question:
1. Am I doing something wrong to have the shells back up under the latch or is there a problem with the shotgun?
2. How do I get the shells out without totally disassembeling the shotgun?

Thanks for your help.

There is a small catch at the rear of the magazine tube.... you need to be sure that you push the shell ALL THE WAY into the magazine tube so that the rim of the shell is past that little catch. If you push the shell in just enough to get past the carrier and release it, the magazine spring will push it out of the mag tube and into the receiver.
Thanks for the help. To be sure I understand, as long as I make sure that the shell is pushed into the magazine as far as it will go, then I shouldn't have this problem any more?

Lastly, if I have the problem again, what is the easiest way to get the shell out from underneath the Carrier Release?

Thanks again.

Knock the two pins out and remove the trigger group.

On several occasions I have loaded several shells into the magazine then the shells back up under (I think it is called) the Carrier Release.
Is this always on the first shell out of the magazine tube or can it happen in any sequance?

If you answered the above as it's only the first shell out of the magazine. Then it's more than likely a user error by not pushing the shell in far enough. If it's any shell regardless of location, then it's a gun issue. I've seen two 11-87's have this problem and continue to do so even after one went back to Remiongton and both were worked on by a local smith.
