Never heard of a thing called a "shotgun pistol" and don't know anyone dumb enough to light off one anyway?
 I believe federal law states that shotguns must have a minmum of a 18" barrel and be 26" over-all length.

:? Didn't you already ask this question?

Sounds like a cop trolling for a catch. If you want a short barreled shotgun, hacksaw blades are cheap. Have at it.

Also, Bond Arms makes a derringer in .45LC/.410, and I believe they call it the "snake charmer" or something to that effect. I think the way they can get away with that not being considered a SBS is the fact that it is chambered for .45LC, and it just so happens that you can slip in a .410 shell. I think there might be some issues if they did one in 20-gauge or 12-gauge, but you'd have to be diagnosed with some very strange mental illness to try to shoot something like that. You'd definately be diagnosed with something after you shot it, that's for sure.

Whether a cop or not, it sure sounds like trolling in my book.

Those guns all have rifleing in the barrel on them. A true "smooth bore" shotgun pistol is illegal, has been for a very long time, like since the '30s I believe it was. Making a pistol out of a gun that was originaly not a pistol is illegal too. Meaning you can't cut down an old H & R or something similar and make it into a handgun. Can't do it with a rifle either. I've seen some pictures of some pretty nicely done ones made from old slide action Remington and Winchester .22 rimfires too! Get you in trouble BIG TIME!

Ah yes, it was the rifling that does it. I was wrong. Mark that event on your calendars  .

I once saw a post on another forum with a pic of a Russian-made revolver chambered for shotshells. A weird, ungainly-looking thing that looked like a sci-fi movie gun. The vertical distance from grip to barrel would have made for fierce recoil, and it's usefulness is questionable. I'm not sure if it went into production.

not illegal, but restricted. a handgun chambered in 20 or 12 gauge would be considered an AOW. i believe it requires a form 4 - the same form used for machine guns, sbs's, and sbr's.

More then likely some kid that watches to many movies?
 Ever notice that the age of the folks making these posts or the ones about a shotgun
with a short barrel for HD and skeet shooting all seem to be between 12 and 20! :p

The derringers/pistols that fire from the short barrels. are nothing more than a joke or something for wantabe Rabos. Simply the barrel length is too short for any ballistic performance. Remoington says it takes 14 inches of barrel length for the powder to burn. what do you think will haappen
with a two or three inch one. In chronograph tests these guns did not get a velocity of much more than 450 fps. The Thunder five was less than that due to the cylinder gap allowing gasses to escape. For self defense it takes 369 fps to penetrate the skin. Personally I was at a friends house in the back yard. A small field rat came into the yard. He ran into his house and got his new toy, a .45 derringer. He aimed carefully and fired.
Nothing but a loud bbom. The pattern spread out so much and was of such low velocity it did not even scare the rat off. He reloaded and fired again. The dust for feet around the rat was stirred up. The rat was noti njured, but this time he ran off. Range was less than 15 feet.

Very restricted.

The shotgun derringers may be for very specific use, but I'd rather have a .38 snubnose than one of those anyday. If I had one of those .45/.410 things, guess which of the two it would be much more likely loaded with, even though firing it once or twice would probably be all I'd ever want to do.

okla-lawman was right on the money, as was wb.
