Since I saw the post here first I'll answer here.
I have a Bob Allen that I picked up at Walmart. I had looked at several custom made vests but they are in the $80-150 and up range. I picked this one up for $12-14 they are normally about $20. It is ok, but for instance the pockets sag and pull on your shoulder when you put shells in them, more than I was expecting and lacks some of the bells and whistles of a higher end vest. I recently found a McAllister for $40, regularly around $140 and have yet to shoot with it, but it fits better has better leather, the whole right side is leather faced which helps keep the buttstock from snagging which it did a couple of times with the BA vest, extra stiches in stress areas, some of those bells and whistles that I realized I wanted.
Color is a consideration, although you can look cool as the man in black in a Beretta vest during the summer all that black is going to be far from cool.
You can go to most major shoots and find vests and some of the ladies that make them. The expensive ones are just another tool to invest in. It's something that with care will last a good long time, take a look at some of the older shooters and the patches that they have on theirs.
