A Weatherby 12-gauge shotgun, valued at $5,000, will be the highlight of the annual Shreveport Chapter of Duck's Unlimited annual membership banquet and auction on Thursday at Harrah's Shreveport Casino and Hotel.

The banquet has been held at the Shreveport Convention Center in recent years but chairman Tony Harrington said moving to Harrah's made sense.

"We wanted a different venue, different food and a whole new situation," Harrington said. "The Harrah's people have been great to work with. It should be fun to have this event on Halloween Eve."

The 2003 banquet will include a live and silent auctions, along with raffles for various items and door prizes. Cost to attend is $50 for an individual or $400 for an eight-table sponsorship.

The fee includes a one-year DU membership, a meal and drinks. There will be an open bar with free beer, wine and liquor. The event is nearing the capacity of 500 tickets but a limited number are still available.

"We probably could go over 500 people based on the tickets we've sold, but we want to keep it to a manageable number and the space is limited," Harrington said.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. with dinner served from then until 6:30 p.m. Harrington said he expects the event to end by 10 p.m.

The dinner will be duck camp fair with crawfish etoufee, sausage, beef tips, etc... with all the trimmings.
