Ya I do alot in salt water--the gun usually does get wet and it does start to rust (although mine have never pitted in one day, that's amazing--must be more salt in Alaska than CT). JLP is right, Breakfree and the inhibitor stuff is the way to go. I sometimes take a little bottle / spray can of each and a gunrag and wipe the gun down during the hunt. Guns with hinky finishes, like Remington express models, rust really fast. The insides are generally ok, but be sure to field strip and clean thoroughly if you've been out in the salt. Yup, you're going to have to learn to take out the trigger group, etc. It's do-able if you are patient and ask for help. Don't be afraid to use the gun, just take extra good care of it and you'll be fine.
