I have a 12g Win1300 Home Defender 20" with improved cylinder.

What type of slugs can I use, if any?

Don't want the damn thing blowing up in my face!

Okay, you can shoot slugs through it, I was wrong. But in order to make the best use of them you'll want a rifled barrel for better accuracy. You don't need it, but it does help. Try looking:

for rifled barrels.

Slugs will be fine through your 1300. I shoot slugs through all of my shotguns and all of them are improved cylinder.

If your 1300 is for home defense, I would stick with the smoothbore and shoot either foster slugs or Brenneke's through it. For home defense, you may also want to use buckshot, which you do not want to shoot through a rifled barrel, as it will spin the shot and throw it everywhere, with no definitive pattern. The smooth bore will shoot fosters and Brenneke's pretty well inside 50 yards. My setup, is a remington 870 express with mag extension and 18inch cylinder bore. I keep 5 rnds of 00 buck in the mag, and 5 slugs on a sidesaddle shell holder, so I can use them if I need. If you plan on using it for deer hunting or whatever, I would get the rifled barrell.
