I have two Spanish guns with proof marks that appear to be 850 and 900 Kgs, respectively. Can you please tell me what this would compare to in PSI, and what type of loads I could safely fire in them? Both are 12 ***** with 2 3/4" chambers. Thanks for the help.

850 is 850 Kg/cm^2, which is approximately 12,300 psi.

900 Kg/cm^2 is approximately 13,000 psi.

Stay away from magnum loads.

Do the Spanish do as the Brits, and post the loads the gun is intended/proofed for use? Or are they listing the actual proof load? If the former," magnum" loads shouldn't be a problem. If the latter, low pressure,[7,000-8,000 psi], loads would be required.

Jim, that is a good question and I do not have the answer. The proof certificate of my Ugartechea does not specify. Will try to e-mail the Eibar Proof House and find out.

I thought that Spanish proof testing is when you can sneak over the border without being caught!

I'm guessing that the listed pressures are design, not proof. Spain is a member of the C.I.P. and would probably borrow methods used by other member countries who have been requiring proof longer, such as the Brits. Let us know what you find out though.

Well, the Eibar proof house does not have (not surprisingly) a web site. I will have to write them a letter and mail it the old fashioned way. No way I'm paying the LD charge for a phone call to Spain.

Any chance you could photograph or scan the marks and post them up? We may be able to better help if you can.

Are there any stars or asterisks near the proof marks?
