Am I wrong to think that new longer hoses and some additional fluid is all I need to do?

In general, hydraulics really don't care about hose length.
Take your current hose(s) to a hydraulic shop near you and they should be able to fix you up.
Make sure you know the minimum length that you require them to be. If your pump is noisy, you might want to put it in another room or in a noise insulated enclosure with enough room so it won't overheat.
If you know what fluid is suggested by Spolar, get some of that as well.

This depends on how far away you move the pump and the current level in the tank. If your tank level is anywhere near minimum buy more oil.

Dextron III (three) for the fluid. Some of the larger NAPA parts stores do hoses reasonable.

 

Call Spolar and ask them what to do. So far as i am aware, none of the people who have responded so far use a Spolar, let alone with the hydraulics.

 

I own two Spolar presses that run off one motor and have run hydraulic lines aplenty over the years

Have you priced out new lines yet? If not, you might lose interest in this project once you do. I did for a hydraulic PW a decade and a half ago, and the pricing was punitive.
