I'm going to firmly insert my foot in my mouth on the following. SPRINGFIELD is a name used by the Stevens Arms & Tool Company on their less expensive shotguns. The guns are mechanically identical to the more expensive shotguns but are less well finished and have hardwood stocks like birch or beech wood finished to look look like walnut. I"m also going to make a wag and say the gun is the same as a Stevens New Model 311 which was made in 12, 16 OR 20 Gauges and .410 bore (a caliber, not a gauge) with 28,30 or 32 inch steel barrels and made from 1932 to 1959. I have a note taken from the internet saying Stevens used letter prefixes to the serial numbers to indicate year of manufacture. I can see a letter "T" prefix to the serial number of this gun and according to the information I have, that would indicate the gun was made in 1966. I can't be sure this is accurate but it's all I have. Otherwise there is no published serial number-year made tables for Stevens made guns. Not even the Stevens Historian has that information.
