I recently bought and shot an SX3 Sporting Adjustable and found myself working harder than I thought I should to line up with the rib. I know this model doesn't come with cast shims/spacers, but wondered if there were aftermarket products that I could buy and install without needing a gunsmith. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I assume that you are referring to a Winchester SX3 autoloading shotgun. If so, the gun comes with shims for the stock and butt pad to that allows you to adjust cast and length of pull. A set of these should be available through various sources as they would be the same parts for Browning guns of similar design. If you are not asking about a Winchester SX3, then we don't have enough information to help you.

Yes, a Winchester SX3. But the Sporting Adjustable doesn't come with any shims/spacers. Only the composite model does. I spoke with Winchester technical service this morning and they confirmed that. And so, I thought I would have to find an after market solution if one existed.

Buy the shims and work on the stock yourself to make them fit. It can't be that different.

I just can't imagine needing more adjustment than what is available with the factory stock and hardware. Are you running out of lateral or vertical adjustment?

So will winchester not sell you a set of spacers. I think that would be a great place to start looking for them.

I'd like to get a little lateral adjustment (cast), and Winchester doesn't provide any adjustment hardware for the SX3 Sporter. Do you know if the composite SX3 spacers will work with the Sporter? When I spoke with the Winchester tech about adjustments for the Sporter, he didn't suggest using the composite shims.

My Sporting Adjustable allows adjustment in two planes, vertical and horizontal. I've moved my comb up approximately a quarter of and inch and to the right an eighth of an inch. Does yours not have the scale lines on the hardware when you take the comb off the stock? I found them helpful in setting cast.

Thanks very much {hs# - I should have figured it out from the name of the gun - Sporting "Adjustable". I had found the height adjustment, but never took the comb all the way off the stock to see the cast adjustment also. Now I have it set perfectly. Again, thanks for the advice!
