I am new to this forum and I have a shotgun that I need some information about if possible.

The gun is a W & C, SCOTT & SON patented BLOCK-SAFETY hammerless 12 gauge with patented "Crystal Indicators" on the breech so you can look through the site glass and see if the barrel has been fired. The gun does have some nice engraving on both sides of the breech plate. It has a Swan engraved on the left side and a Duck on the right side. The barrel is 30 in. long. Each part of this gun has the serial number #40XXX stamped on it. It has a USA Patent date of Sep 19, 82 with PAT Gas Check No. 2361. There are two other Patent dates listed as May 6, 79 and Dec 3, 78. It also has a W&C, S&S Pat#761 with the #2361 stamped underneath. It has an upper tang push block safety.

I inherited this gun from someone that also inherited it from someone that also inherited it and I believe it to be made prior to 1900 but I don't know for sure.

I have only seen 5 other W & C, SCOTT & SON shotguns and a collector had them many years ago. I think that he died several years ago and I need to get any information on this type gun if possible. Can anyone help me ???

Your gun isn't too old, it was made in '86 , 1886 that is.

this one is from the same year although the grade doesn't appear to be the same. Note that the opening bid was set by the seller and 4 (?) days have passed without a bid.

theses are classified ads, the prices may be high but you should be able to get some usable info from them.

Marlands,
Thank you very much for your quick reply. I read it recently but I have been on the go lately so I haven't been able to say thanks for your valuable information.
