It says how they are mean to there employees (who don't have to work there). How they don't want unions in there stores. Sexual descrimination. This is just a small part of what they say but personaly I don't give a damn what the articles say stuff is cheaper so I shop there.
If we based our decisions of where to shop on articles like those, we would be in quite a bind. If you look, you could find articles like that about any major chain of stores or major corporation. Of course Wal-Mart doesn't want unions in their stores. Look what the unions have done to the airline industry. They will put their employers out of business rather than do what makes sense to keep the jobs that their members currently have. The usefullness of unions in the US ran out a long time ago. I agree that they were very useful in the past, but the state of employment today does not require a union. When it comes down to it, a union's long term contracts with employers very often put employees at a disadvantage by not allowing them to negotiate based on the individual merits of each employee.

jhendri2 is a Southwestern Oklahoma person and he knows where I'm coming from about having to buy at Walmart. I also bet he knows where Hollis and Elk City are. :) :)
I know exactly where Elk City and Hollis are! I am stationed at Altus AFB. Plan on retiring here.

I like Wal-Mart. I live in a small town. Until Wal-Mart came we had very little choice of products and prices were very high. We would go to a larger city about sixty miles away for larger purchases. When Wal-Mart came we bought a Hover vacuum cleaner for $149.99. The only other place in town that had this exact same vacuum wanted $199.99. A $50.00 savings on one vacuum cleaner. I buy shotgun shells for $3.27 per box at Wal-Mart. Next cheapest place in town is $4.29 per box. Wal-Mart pays its workers more per hour than most other retail stores in this small town. These other stores don't have retirement plans or health insurance available to their employees. Go to any small town and and ask the average working family if they like having their Wal-Mart and they will answer yes. No one has to work at Wal-Mart. A person must walk in the door and ask to work there.

Shopping Today:

870 Express 20 ga.
Dicks: $240.00
My nearest gun shop: $299.00

Ruger 10/22 Rifle:
Dicks: $155.00
My nearest gun shop: $252.00

Total purchase of $395 vs $551, for $156 savings. That's a heck of a lot of ammo one could buy!

averitt, I hope you're in the process of digging you a foxhole, 'cause your favorable sentiments about Wal-mart may have you diving for cover before long.
You aren't listening, "Crusher T". Bartlett is a suburb of Memphis, thus it's easy for you to say what you say. You have close access to whatever. I don't love everything about Walmart, either, but us small town boys just have to get most of our stuff there because we have no choice, esp. those of us who aren't wealthy. If you can afford to pay a lot more, pay more, that's one of your rights. :)

What a dillema...

Buy a firearm from Wal-Mart where they fire employees for saying "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" and where the mis-treat employees?

Or do I go to the "mom and pop" store where they overcharge and mark everything up and don't give a new customer the time of day?

Do what's best for you and not worry about everyone else. Go where you save money and people treat you nice. Let the Wal-Mart employee worry about his or her own situation. Last time I heard they were free to find work elsewhere. If they don't care enough to quit, why should you care enough to not shop there on their behalf.

There are plenty of causes to take on, let Wal-mart employees handle theirs. My cause is taking care of my family and providing for their future and not pissing away money by getting ripped-off. And it's the principle of the matter as well. I mean, look at the post of mine above where I comparison shopped...

If everyone wants to be noble to their causes, buy at Wal-Mart and Dicks and donate your savings to the NRA in the name of your local gun shop :)

I think it's you who is not listening. Crusher is a Wal-Mart supporter. Look at his earlier response to my first post. He knows where you are coming from and is telling other supporters to duck because there are a lot of Wal-Mart haters in this crowd.

I wonder how many of these WM bashers shop on the Internet for the best price on goods...that is no better than shopping at Wal-Mart (and is even worse if you consider the state tax revenue) because both "put down the little guy". That's hypocricy to the Nth degree.

Me, I shop where the hell I want without pi$$ing in the fruit loops of others. Some just like peeing in other people's food...

I shopped around for a while, although it was tough in Rhode Island to find a good amount of gun stores. Finally I narrowed it down to Walmart or a local gun store, and I decided to go with the local. The amount of knowledge the gun store owners had and the ability to point me in the right direction was the selling point. They were very polite and did not treat me like an idiot. The owner even threw in a case for the gun, needless to say that they have found a loyal customer. I will always try to pay the extra money to a local store, especially one as good as this.

I have bought guns at local shops, gunshows, and Walmart. In Ft Worth its been my experince that we have only one rude gunshop and its the gun section of Cheaper Than Dirt which has the highest prices in this area. The local Walmarts have good people running the Gun counter. The real bad dealers in my area are at the gunshows. As a matter of fact the last 3 guns I bought were from Walmart. One is a super nice 700 ADL in 30-06 and the other two are the dreaded 870 Express and the even more dreaded 870 Express Super Mag. I would recommend Guns Plus Discount in Weatherford Texas to anyone, Carlton the owner is the best guy that you could find running a gun store. He always has a fresh pot of coffee on and will talk for hours.

I get a kick out of all the people that expect the employees of any discount store to be all knowing or even familiar with their product. It doesn't matter if it is the sporting goods, jewelry, or underwear departments, the employees are not expected nor trained to be all knowing. That is one reason lower prices are paid along with not having a service department. It is expected that if one has a problem with a product that it will be returned for replacement and not repair. If not under warranty or if one wants it repaired, then you have to find a service center yourself.
Wal-Mart is no different than any other big chain, just that #1 is always the one shot at. I'll buy from Wal-Mart if prices are cheaper but I certainly do not go to them for advice nor help.
