As I've said before, I don't care for Walmart's lack of service or knowledge. I even have problems trying to get 12 ga. stuff. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have gotten my rare(around here) 870 20 ga. that I bought on-line. My Garsh, it probly jest aint big enuff or manly enuff fer 'round here. We do have to shop at Walmart, though, and they do have a better return and refund policy..........

They remind me of this......KFC's honey bbq wings....boxes of 6 and 18.....I said I want 12 wings, please....can't sell me 12 wings because they only come in boxes of 6 and 18.....must be the water here. A TRUE STORY. No need to get excited about a big name store coming here because you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear....they still have to hire the local nit-wits.

Oh....I mean lack of knowledge about what they have in stock..as, "Do you have any #3 buckshot for a 20 ga.?" "or any 00 for a 12 ga.?" :).....................Yeah, I think the others are just complaining about stuff like they aint there in the department, or they haven't been told anything about how to wait on a customer, or what they have to sell...........I don't think anybody expects the associates to really know anything about their guns.

In other words, "They have that ferrr away look in their eyes!!"

A little off topic... While I will shop at Wal-Mart, I absolutely refuse to use the check outs where you run the merchandise over the register yourself, put your money in the machine and off you go. I was at a regional chain grocery store once and the one employee who was watching th 4 "check yourself out" registers tried very hard to get me to use one of these registers. She told me several times that it would save me time, rather than waiting in the long line at the normal register. I finally told her I refuse to use the check yourself out registers and she asked why. When I explained that I felt these registers were taking jobs away from live cashiers, she questioned me as to why I believed this. I then pointed out she was watching 4 registers. That makes 1 cashier instead of 4 for the same number of registers. The look on her face was priceless when the light bulb came on![/b]

just a little info.
I never thought anyone here would stoop to the point of pointing someone to anything from Rense. You just lost all credibility with that post. Keep your conspiracies on Rense please.

Funny that capitalism is now suddenly a bad thing.

^^^ Link to their firearms online. Print the final page of the firearm you want and take it to the nearest store that actually sells firearms.

Of the two closest to me, one quit carrying firearms altogether. A business decision I'm sure. When you sometimes have Wal-Marts less than five or six miles away from each other (Glenwood Rd/Hwy 70 in Raleigh, NC, for example) they end up competing among themselves.

My closest Wal-Mart's hunting manager is a female who hunts and shoots skeet. They are stocked better than most Wal-mart's I've seen.

In Jefferson, NC, those guys are big time hunters who work in that store's hunting department. They carry Ruger No1 rifles (.257 Roberts), and many other fine firearms; And even RCBS reloading supplies for all your centerfire reloading needs.

Sorry to ramble.

The resurrection of another dead thread.

Good point. How do you know this thread is old? Ever since the site went down I can't tell when a thread was started, everything shows -5.

Edit: Never mind. I fat fingered something in my profile and was sitting here thinking the post dates were messed up as a result of the "break in".

I am new here and just getting into clay sports. I have been to 4 gun shops to educate myself and decide what shotgun is for me. I have found that unless you have $100.00 bills hanging out of your pocket you only have limited attention from shop owners. Even when the shop is empty of other consumers. I want to buy a Remington 870 and realized that thru you fine folks with no help from gun shops. Since the shop owners had so little interest in helping me start out they will miss out on selling me all that new gear.

I don't think I want a Remington express but a what do you guys think? Is the 870 wingmaster a better way to go?

thanks, johnnyh14

The short answer to your question, JohnnyH14, IMO, you will be much more satisfied with a Wingmaster rather than an Express. I have one of each (Remington Express and Wingmaster), in addition to Mossberg (2), Winchester (2), Baikal, and CZ shotguns, and the Express is by far the worst-finished and clunkiest gun I have.

If you are having trouble getting the info you need from the gun shops, you will have to educate yourself, ask questions on the message boards (be prepared to spend time separating the wheat from the chaff), go to the gun manufacturers websites, and try to handle as many friends and acquaintances' guns (and gun show guns) as you can. Keep going to different gun shops, as there are a few who are truly helpful to prospective customers. Don't just shop price...you may find a gem of a gunshop that will work with you on price AND provide good service should you need it.

Remember that a good shotgun lasts a long time, and the extra few dollars you spent getting something you really want and like will be forgotten as you use and enjoy the gun.

I don't know how many times this is going to get beaten to death on this board, but there is absolutely no difference, other than cosmetic and price, between the two. There is NO hand fitting of parts on the Wingmaster, and it is no different in operation.... in fact, the parts are interchangeable.

Blued/Walnut vs Matte/Birch - you're paying for the good looks, and that's all.

WOW, haha this thread was from when I was looking around for my first 870 :D :D In other words "many shells ago" :D

::Why not an update::

I went with the express from Walmart, I had to pound out the "dimples" in the mag tube to fit a mag extension on it.. Long story short, I parted out my Walmart 870 on ebay and sold the receiver on a forum (this decision was influenced by 870Pilot :D ) anyway's I actually made more money parting it out then I paid for the shotgun. Next I bought a used HD express 870 (BiG 5 type) with no dimples in the mag tube for $180, I then parted and sold everything off except for the receiver/trigger/bolt/carrier/forend rail/nut. I took that money and bought parts I personally prefer, now I have a shotgun I absolutely adore that has never given me a problem to this day. Durable/reliable/ = Priceless

Personally, I don't mind the express finish, if I get a knick on it I wont kick my self in rear for it.. But now that my express has proven itself to me, I have no problem dropping money down on a nice durable refinish.
