Papadoodles-- I see you are from Sunnyvale... do you shoot on the bay? What's the latest with the salt marsh exchange for runways at SFO? I wonder if that will put an end to duck hunting in the bay.

A few friends of mine go out along the San Mateo shore, but it's tough going, and they have to get up at 3am or so to get the boat launched and cruise over to their "spot". Which is really bad when you stay up til 4am and have to get up an hour before you go to bed.... :?

I go for ducks up in Gridley, a mere 2.5 hrs from home, and for pheasants I go to the Suisun Marsh club, a much more comfortable 40 minutes.

Three ducks total for the opening weekend--- 1 scrawny teal, and 2 even scrawnier spoonies. This weekend should be better, as we will have more than the 1 inch of water we had last Sat.

Hi Foo! I have a black lab. She has been busy fetching ducks since mid October. I shot up my bird card already at Suisun, but I'm planning on getting another for the last part of the pheasant season. Once duck season is over, I'll be back at the Suisun club!

Sorry about the delay in a reply. I don't get down to this portion of the forum very often.

We hunt at a club just a little southeast of Gustine. This has been one lousy season!!! About one quarter of our normal ducks. Well, there is always next year!

I got the name when we went to the amusement parks in southern California a few years ago. We were all using the walkie-talkies and they couldn't decide what to yell when they wanted to get me - they new that my first name and Dad just wouldn't do. So, was born Papadoodles. I'm fairly sure no one else has that handle.

Glad you too are wackin' the ducks. Cool pictures from suisun. Looks like you've got a couple of great hunting partners! I haven't hunted Suisin in about a month cause I've been busy with the ducks and quail too. I got a weekend hallpass from my wife and took friday off as well. Hunted duck friday, saturday and monday. On friday I got a drake mallard, a drake greenwing and a drake woody. Saturday I hunted gray lodge in the afternoon and had a couple of outstanding opportunities on mallards and teal but didn't connect. Sunday I hunted Fort Hunter Ligget with Millie, my GPS, and a buddy...11 quail. Yesterday I hunted ducks again and it was pretty slow. One huge drake mallard and a hen canvasback. First Can of the year. After all this hunting I'm really draggin' today. Can't wait to get off of work and take a nap.
