Hello all. I was cruising around a local gun store and happened upon a really nice Weatherby Athena. I see it was made in Japan, but I was hoping that some of you more informed fellas could tell me who actually made this gun. Was it made by Miroku like the earlier Orions? Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Joe

Hello. It was actually made by SKB, a different but equally respected Japanese gun maker. I have an SKB made Orion and really like it. Very well made and can still be found for decent prices. SKB is now out of business but parts can still be had but you probably won't need them.

Thanks, that's why I came here to ask for advice. I can always find someone a bit smarter with the right answer. I appreciate your quick response.

I have two SKB made guns. One is Ithaca branded, and one produced after the company reorganization. They're very similar, and of equal quality, imo.

Pretty much all the parts are available from SKB in Omaha if you decide to get it.

I own a Weatherby Athena that was acquired new in 1984. It was made by SKB in Japan. It is a 12ga with 26 inch fixed choke barrels IC/Mod. I used it for a few years in the 80's for upland hunting only. It has not been used for more than 25 years and is like new. For the few years in use it was flawless. I simply stopped shooting 12ga shotguns and went to 16ga and 20ga. Just last week I was thinking of selling it simply because I don't use it, but it is a beauty (back when Weatherby used really nice wood) and not sure I want to part with it.
