my dad wants to hunt dove with his moss 500 mariner. short cylinder bore barrel... are there any loads that will improve his chances? Thanks.

He'd be fine with lead #7.5 out to about 30 yards. If you wanted to tighten the pattern, don't laugh here, but you could get him some 2.75" #6 or #7 steel shot. It would probably tighten it down to an Improved or maybe a little better pattern.

Just think that was 2cents for free.

Hevi-Shot is the greatest thing since slice bread but,
$1.50 (Let's just say) per trigger pull x 9 shots per bird National Average (According to US Fish and Wildlife) = Take him out for steak.

The Remington Part Number SST127 Sportsman Steel is # 7 shot 2.75", 1300FPS for around $8.88 a box. Still a little expensive but.....
