Q. How do I estimate shot spread at a given range?

A good rough rule, is when fired from a full-choke gun, the pattern will spread roughly 1" per yard. When fired from an improved-cylinder gun, it will spread roughly 1 ¾" per yard. Other degrees of choke will spread proportionally.
Gauge has no affect on this. Larger gauges only fill in more of the pattern with shot.
