I have a Remington shotgun that was my fathers. It doesn't say on it what model it is. It doesn't look like any of their current models which have a sloping back, this is 'cut' abruptly
It says "The Sportsman" opposite the bolt side with an engraving of duck taking off over a pond. A six digit number starting with 513 is also on this side. The engraving on the bolt side is of a pheasant running.
I have 2 barrels with it, both with Browning patents on them. One 30" that says 12 gaugeand WF X MOD. The other barrel says full on it with a Lyman choke on it and 2 screw on tips about 32" long.
Any help with identifying this would be appreciated. I am new to shotguns and have no idea what any of this means.

Thanks,
Nathan

Sounds like a Model 11, based on the browning patent except no magazine cutoff. They also made a Sportsman 58, but I don't remember it being a "hump back".

Thanks for the reply Payton. After looking around it seems that it is a Model 11, especially with the hump back.

If anyone else has any input on this I would appreciate it.

Is there anything special about the different barrels I have that I should know about?

If this is a 12 ga. they made 102,467 of them from 1931 to 1948. The sportsman is the three shot (two in the magazine-one in the chamber) version of the model 11(which is 5 shot). As for the barrels you might see which is the original. Take it off and see which one matches the receiver serial number. Look at the Remington web site and order a free instruction manual.
