Hello,
I'm new to the forum and just returning to shooting/hunting after 20+ years. any way my question is this. I want a Remington 12 ga. either a 870 or 1100. I will be buying used as at this time I really cant afford new. I want something I can deer, turkey, rabbit or squirrel hunt with as well as trap shooting sometimes. I know the older guns don't have the Remchoke so I know I will have to buy a couple extra barrels I just want to know from you guys what would be your choice. What gun would I have the least trouble making as versatile as I want.

Yo...

I own both. For the money (like about 1/3 the price new) you can't beat an 870. Also, the newer models (like are always on sale for less than $250) come with a Rem Choke compatible barrel. Watch Bass Pro and Wal Mart.

Tough question.I own both and they're both great guns.If I was going to own just one shotgun though,to do a bit of everything, and that would stand up well to bouncing around in the back of the truck,or sitting in your duck boat in the salt water,I'd have to say that I'd take my 870.Dirty or not,if you can shuck it,it will shoot for you.

870! Versatility is a coin toss but reliability the 870 wins hands down. Plus you can get new 870 express and a second barrel for the cost of a used 1100. I picked up clean 870 wingmaster 20ga and a extra rifle sighted deer barrel 6 months ago for 325 on gunbroker.com.
