I agree that a 3.5" is not needed but nice to have. If you go with the 3.5" then this gun will be for heavy 2 3/4" to 3.5". You can also use it for trap since you only fire one shell but skeet would be your 140. I use my A-5 at times and set the friction ring to heavy so I don't have to bend over and pick up shells. Just pull the bolt back slow and pick out the shell. Right now Winchester has the $50 mail in rebate on the X2 so figure that in also.
Now here is the thing The sporting 3" guns come with two different gas pistons one is the standard piston that comes in the field grade, and one is for the light stuff like low recoil low noise target loads. If you order one of the light pistons from winchester like as a relpacement part you could use the 3.5" X2 for everything even with light taget loads in 1 oz or 7/8 oz. At least I sure don't see why not.
Synthetic or wood I think you will like it.
