Interesting story which could have had a much worse ending. Intruder is subdued, held at gunpoint then rushes the homeowner. The homeowner has done everything right except at the crucial moment when they have to fire to defend themselves, they have left the safety on.

The subject collapsed and died after being removed from the home. Think drugs were involved?

Perfect example of knowing your gun and how to use it. A firearm bought for self protection and them allowed to sit in a closet and collect dust is of no benefit.

They wouldn't be charged/convicted. Especially with that new law in Florida that allows citizens to defend/kill if they are threatened.

"The new Florida law authorizes the use of force, including deadly force, against an intruder or attacker if a reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm or the commission of a felony exists. Such force may be used against an intruder or attacker in a dwelling, residence, vehicle or any "place where he or she has a right to be."

So I guess if you were stopped at a light and a criminal came up to you with a pocketknife and you feel threatened.. then you can blow his head off legally :) I like that law :D
