My 1920 Win model 12 out of the safe gave me a hard time getting the take down to work without huge hand force turning the magazine.
The same take down system is used in the 1897 design, and I have used that hundreds of times over the last 60 years with easy hand force.
I looked and looked for what was causing the problem.
The takedown pin is interference rubbing on the barrel.
It seems like maybe my take down pin was installed backwards.
So I looked around for instructions on how to get the pin out.

I poked the pin detent spring with a screwdriver, removed the pin, flipped it end for end, and re inserted.
Now the takedown process works smoothly.
That must be why the guy sold it to me so cheap [ $160 ] in 2014-02-02.
