Hi,

I've got a Winchester Model 42 that my father in law gave me :D . It has a plain 28" full choke barrel, no checkering and a corn-cob fore-arm.

He says its pre-war, but the Serial Number seems way too high :? ; its 14545, can someone tell me when it was made?

Thanks,

Jim

Hello 101VooDoo: According to Schwing the author of "The winchester Model 42" the receiver was machined in Oct. of 1933. It was most likely built up into a complete gun by early 1934.

Although Maddis states, 1935 he went largely on sales records because Winchester didn't have the manufacturing records on some models or wouldn't release them to Maddis, when he was writing his many books.

Regards Dave

My uncle took delivery of a M42 Winchester #14591 on September 29,1935. The gun was purchased from Brattle Hardware in Dallas,TX. The gun is a plain Field Model with a 28" full choke barrel.
