I was given by a fellow that was moving back east approx 6lbs of this powder, along with some Red Dot, and 3lbs of Dupont 7625.
Anybody ever use this 571 ball powder for target loads?

I have never used any 571 fo the bigger gauges, but this is from the Hodgdon web site and might be of help looking for loads.

HS-6 is the same powder as Winchester® 540, and HS-7 is the same powder as Winchester 571. Winchester discontinued these powders, but they are still available through Hodgdon

This powder is hydroscopic! It will absorb water if you use cases with a seperate base wad. Lyman third edition shows loads for 20 ga 23.0 gr.RXP case CCI 109 waa20 1 oz shot 1155 fps
26.5 AA case win 109 waa20 wad 7/8 oz 1295 fps
12 ga 32.0 gr. AA case cci 109 waa12r wad 1 1/2 oz shot 1105 fps I still have some of this stuff but no longer use it, I had some duck loads that got wet just from being in the front seat of my truck overnight. If you use compression formed cases theres no problem. Hope this helps.

Can not be used for target loads in 12 ga. reliable. Very good in 20 and 28 ga, and marginally good in 16 gauge. If you want to get rid of it contact me I would use it in 28 and 20 and also good for light handgun loads. Richard

Makes and excellent "target" load powder in 28 ga and even some in 20 ga. Actualy it isn't a bad field load powder in 20 or 28 ga either. I still have a pound of it left too! As well as several pounds of Alcan AL-5, AL-7, and AL-8. I'm still doing the research for using some if that in 20 and 28 ga shells too.

1 3/8 oz. HS-7 Win. 209 WAA12R 38.5 gr / 9,900 LUP

I found this load on the Hogdon site for the 12GA STS hull. Can you imagine 38.5gr of powder! Sheesh, You could sure go through the stuff fast. Too bad they don't show a reduced load :( You think they could design a 1oz load say using 25gr and getting the same velocity?

Farmer Dick, I'm in Canada so I doubt it would be an easy thing to ship to you with all the border security concerns. :)

Maybe I better save my 3" shells that I use for goose hunting, and find somebody that has a loader for 3" steel loading. Either that or I could fertilize my lawn next spring with it!

Thanks for the answers fellows!
