1.1" Micro Core Recoil Pad for 686 SP1 Sporting?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Beretta Micro-Core recoil pads for the 686 Sporting, and how they compare to Kick-Eez and LimbSaver products.

I'd kinda like to stick with Beretta products for fit and originality, but have no issue buying another brand pad if they work better. I'm also trying to increase LOP by an inch or so. I've read several reviews on this forum on various pads and systems but can't find anything much on the Beretta Micro-Core.

Hopper's recoil pad and LOP adjuster install setup is ideal but I'm not quite ready to spend that much money yet.

Also, I see that in the UK they sell a thicker option, the 1.1" thick pad, where in the USA they only seem to sell the .51, .71, and .91 pads. Not sure why they get a larger option over there, maybe the Brits arms are longer from lifting all those pints.

The thicker pad P/N is Beretta E73029, and it can be seen here:

Thanks for your opinions or comments.

I have 2 stocks for my 686 sporting. I put the .91" Micro pad on one, I have a 1" Kick eze on the other. The Micro core is a good pad and fits well. The Micro core is shaped well and does not hang on clothing as much as the Kickeez. The Kick eze is a heavier pad and is a bit thicker. The Kickez is heavy enough to slightly affect the balance of the gun. I think the Kickeze handles recoil slightly better. cost difference is significant in that the Kickeze needs to be ground to fit. Originally when I got the gun the stock that has the Kick eez had a Pachymeyer trap pad that was close to 1.5 inches thick. That was the best pad for recoil reduction but made the stock too long for me and I did not want to cut it.

Here's where I got the device from if you decide to go that route,Doug(dcblvsh here on SGW) did the install.http://www.ccgunstocks.com/

Just an FYI I had to add some weight under the forearm to get the balance how I wanted,Kick-Eez are pretty heavy and if I knew then-what I do now I would have gotten the same pad just would have gotten the thin one instead of the thickest. YMMV :D

I have the thinnest Microcore on both my 20 and 28 SP1s. However, both are field not sporting models. I hunted ducks all season with the 20 ga, shooting 3" Fast Steel and was not in the least bothered by recoil.

I rate the Microcore as an excellent pad.

.79" Micro core here used on a 391 Field model.

I have a couple Kick-eez pads on guns I own. IMO the Micro core works just as well.

To put it bluntly, the Micro core pads are WORLDS better than the Gel Junk oopps...I mean Gel-tek pads ever were.

It must be the .71 pad, Beretta sells the Micro Core in .51, .71, and .91 thicknesses.

I got my 686 SP1 Sporting today (!!!) and it does look like the .71 pad. Not sure the $40 I spent on the .91 is going to be worth it. A whole .2" gain...

I wish Beretta sold LOP length spacers for the 686 Sporting stock. They do for the Field stock, but not Sporting. ... that's what the gunsmith at the Dallas Beretta store told me, anyway.

EDIT: The ~2015 model 686 SP1 Sportings ship with a .91 pad, NOT a .71. When I typed the above, I was wrong.

kickeez are much heavier. microcores work very well. kickeez made some prefit beretta pads that were 1.2" inches thick. model kz113 for sporting:

If it doesn't try one of these, However, remember, adding 1/2 inch or more to a pad moves your face 1/2 inch down the comb of the stock, and since the stock is sloped, that can mean the difference between looking down the rib and looking down the back of your thumb. So if your gun fits you now, it may not after you add length to the back.

Good point 1958. I'm actually seeing a good bit of rib with the factory .71 Micro Core pad, so the .91 should do the trick for me. Didn't think about it effectively lowering the comb a little as well.

I purchased the thinnest micro core pad about 6 months back & have been using it on my 682 & my 391. I'm very happy & surprised by how well that thin pad works.
When I started contract shooting with the steel loads, I went & bought a 1 1/4" soft Decelerator & fitted it the 682. It's been very good but, I found the LOP just too cumbersome in the field so, I went back to the micro core pad.
Surprisingly, I can barely perceive the difference. Using the micro core is much better than I expected with the heavy steel loads.
Strangely though, I do notice more of a difference on my 391 compared to the Gel Tek QR pad whereby, I notice harsher recoil in the form of a stouter push. .
It's by no means uncomfortable, simply noticeable, however, I've ordered another micro core for my 391 b/c I want the reduced LOP it provides.
I have tried the Gel tek on my 682 &, it felt harder than the 1st Decelerator I've had on it for 2 yrs but, the Gel Tek feels the best on my auto
After all the negative comments about the Gel tek QR, I found this interesting.
The Gel tek feels much harder to the touch than the other pads but, seems work very well on my auto.

After seeing your post a couple of weeks ago I ordered one of these 28mm Micro Core pads from the link you provided (they are not available in New Zealand) for my SV10 Prevail. It arrived today and I am very pleased indeed. It is a better fit for my stock than the previous .91 inch pad I tried and rejected because of the poor fit and the price including postage from the UK worked out at slightly less than half what a Micro Core pad costs in NZ. The extra .2 inch increase in LOP this pad provides may not sound like much but it makes the LOP of my SV10 just a perfect fit for me instead of just a good fit. By the way, Micro Core pads can be ground to fit quite well on other guns as I found when I fitted my first rejected Micro Core to a Webley and Scott model 700. So thanks for your post.

Sounds good David, glad it worked out.

Just an update, seems the new 686's are shipping with a .91 Micro-Core pad, I had pre-ordered a .91, assuming the gun came with a .71 pad. Now I'm returning the .91 pad, wishing I had bought the 1.1. However shipping to the USA makes the 1.1" pad cost almost double the .91 pad.... but I bet it does fit well!

Wish Beretta made a .25 spacer for the 686 Sporting. They have one for the Field, not Sporting.

Ditto...I use a Precision Fit Limbsaver 1" approx. pad because it interlocks to the stock via steps built into the pad, like the Beretta oem pad has. This keeps the pad from shifting if the screws loosen. I like that little extra Beretta gives you, and Limbsaver knows its benefits.

Does anyone know what thickness pad comes on the new 686 Field SP1's?

Beretta makes the Micro-Core pads for the Field model in .39, .59, .79, and .99 (1") thicknesses.

I'm trying to help a friend extend his, but we're not exactly sure what comes on the gun. Seems like it's between .59 and .79.

Thanks...

http://www.berettausa.com now shows the 1.1-inch sporting microcore pad in stock for $45. Once I sell a gun, I'm going to buy a new A400 and set it up for sporting clays. Will be nice to have that option. If you get on their e-mail list you generally get 15% off and/or free shipping offers pretty regularly.
That's the pad I got for my A400 Excel (1.11) and I like it, very good pad IMHO. Ordered mine Friday before noon and got it on Monday.
