I just bought a 3rd NID 10 gauge. This one is a grade II. It is 32" F and F. It is a 3 1/2" gun. The other 2 I have are both 2 7/8", which is probably all I will shot out of the grade II. The others are field grade. one I had restocked to fit me, the other has been shortened. I will not keep all three, but I like shooting the 28" gun. It will be a hard decision. I will post pictures in a few days.

What advantage do 2 7/8" loads have on 12 ga 3" ?
I am a 10 ga shooter who loads waterfowl loads that are killers but in 3 1/2" !
As stated above, I will never shoot 3 1/2 loads out of this gun. It is the gun the load was introduced in, but way more than I need or want to put through the gun. 10ga loads do tend to pattern better, less shot string. I never would use more than 1 1/2 oz of Bismuth in a side by side, probably more like 1 1/4 oz. Now, I do own a custom Ithaca Mag 10, that is a different story.

The NID Magnum-10 was introduced in the second 1932 Ithaca Gun Co. catalog.

The gun pictured is a Super-10 and if someone hogged the original 2 7/8-inch chambers out to 3 1/2-inch, most would consider it ruined.

The Magnum NID frame is longer and the longer lug on the barrels has a portion that extends through a recess in the bottom of the frame giving a bit extra bearing surface.

I've got a No. 2 Super-10 of 1931 vintage that I got from Randy Shuman forty years ago now. Still had the original shipping box and the C.O.D. label shows Mr. Sneff paid $27.50 down and the other $30 on delivery. Back when the Winchester/Western catalog showed they were dropping the 2 7/8-inch Super-10 shell I bought all that Potomac Arms had at their year end ammo sale. Still have most of it thanks to non-toxic requirements for waterfowl. The Super-10 is a might heavy for an old guy to carry for Pheasants!!

The article Frank Srebro did on the NID Super-10s in The Double Gun Journal showed Ithaca only made a bit over 500 Super-10s while they made 887 Magnum-10s.
