A400 stripped recoil pad stock holes

Picked up my brand new a400 extreme plus today and needed to change the stock cast over since I’m left handed, realized the holes that the recoil pad were screwed into are stripped out., right out of the box! Called beretta, they are out of the parts but are going to send a new one when it becomes available. I’ve never seen this happen even on an older gun, pretty disappointing being a $1900 gun and all. What would y’all suggest as a temp repair? I know I can use a slightly larger screw but not much meat to work with, I t seems like it most likely won’t come loose so may just leave it alone for the rest of the season. By the way they don’t just sell that one piece, you have to replace the whole kick off system which is pretty lame. I’m also a little disappointed with the recoil, I was expecting less, although I will say it seems to handle the heavier loads progressively better so heavy goose loads really aren’t that bad. My 11-87’s and 1100’s are definitely more pleasant to shoot. The a400 is easier to clean, which is a big bonus for a duck gun. So far I’m sort of regretting not just getting another a300 ultima though.

I would do this but skip the tooth picks. Just plug the holes with a quick setting epoxy, drill a new pilot hole and install. The reason for the faster setting epoxy is so you know its completely hardened before installing a screw.

They didn’t say actually, they just said they will sent me the new part when it became available. They did make me send in pictures first. Originally they wanted me to send the gun in but I protested since I had bought the gun hours before and wanted to use it for the rest of waterfowl season. I wish they would have included a kickoff delete kit like on my a300 ultima, I put a limbsaver on that gun and recoil feels softer than with the kickoff plus would have solved this issue since that’s what the screws screw into. I will give beretta props for a quick call back from the service department and while this is an inconvenience, it happens and they are fixing it in a very quick professional manner so far. Also the build quality of the gun seems excellent . Y’all think the toothpick trick will work on composite parts, with a through hole?

Same thing happened to me on a new SX-4 waterfowler. Called and they sent me a new stock...larger diameter screw not an option without drilling hole in pad larger...since the hole in the stock for the screw was deeper, I just went with a longer screw of the same size to solve the problem.. will see how that works...cheap design

with it being a through hole you may need something to hold the toothpick in until the screw bites into it. You can put some glue on the toothpick or you might be able to stick a piece of tape over the back of the hole and then put the toothpick in the hole. If it is a machine screw that needs a different repair as 1958jr said.

I've never see gun nuts or inserts. I'll have to look into those at some point.

Glue and tooth picks are an old carpenters trick. I've used this for years. Sometimes with tooth picks or wood matches, dowl rods depending on what was handy and hole size. I've also use the epoxy method with and without wood.

With traditional wood stocks I’d drill out the hole, insert a dowel and glue/epoxy it in place but this was my first go with a plastic component. I really don’t like the kick off and suspect it will break before the other parts someday. Hopefully someone will make a kickoff delete for it by then, or better yet hopefully I’m wrong.

You should be able to do away with kickoff unit and use Berettas stock spacers and a recoil pad to make up distance and tailor it to your L.O.P. Thats exactly what I did on my 20 gauge 300 ultima . Needed to get it to a 14" L.O.P. which kickoff wouldn't allow. Instead of Beretta factory pad I replaced with recoil pad from Limbsaver that fits a300 12 gauge. Butt end of stocks are same size between 20 & 12 gauge. Gun now fits and actually has lkess felt recoil with the Limb Saver pad.

The only non kickoff A400 stocks I’m aware of are wood. The A350 stock will fit on an A400. You can find them at Midwest gunworks with and without the butt pad style kickoff, but they don’t have rubber inlays, or the rubber cheek pad.

Then there’s the problem of matching camo. The A300/A350 Xtrema only came in black synthetic, Max 4, or Max 5 camo. Purchasing the stock in black synthetic and getting it dipped would be the best option IMO.

I actually have a Max 4 non kickoff stock in my closet. I wanted the kickoff on my A300 Xtrema and purchasing a stock with the kickoff already installed was less expensive than purchasing a kickoff unit only. I discovered that the A300 Xtrema and A400 were the same when replacing the stock.

Yeah mine has some fancy new Camo pattern. Maybe when the new models come out a400 stocks will go down in price and I can pick up a spare or they will come up with a delete. It’s odd that the a300 models came with one but the a400 don’t. Mine also didn’t come with a plastic case like my last a400 did . Also before I left the store I realized my gun had an extra IM choke and was missing the IC choke so I had them switch out a new choke kit from another gun. Look at these guns close guys!
