I was giving my wife's a400 a spring cleaning today and everything was fine until I tried to remove the trigger assembly. I followed all the directions but that little sucker wouldn't budge. Looking down thru the hole for the retaining pin I could only see where it had moved maaaybe 1/32" at most.

Did Beretta leave something out of the directions or is there some trick I'm missing?

Thanks

Yes and yes...removed the pin the way the illustration in the manual showed and was pushing and holding the bolt release.

Do you maybe have to push the bolt release in further than when chambering a shell? ...or not as far in?
Push in the bolt release and pull HARD forward and down. If need use a large screw driver thru the trigger guard for a little persuasion.

The trigger group frame is a molded plastic and metal part, not a machined part. Sometimes removing it from the action the 1st time can be quite a chore. Once you get it out you will notice some casting marks that may be making the removal a bit more difficult. You can file or sand them smooth. As others have suggested, make sure you depress the bolt release, and if it still won't budge try a piece of 1/4 " rope ( like lawnmower starter cord tied around the trigger guard and give it a sharp tug while depressing the bolt release.
When replacing the trigger group make sure the pins that retain the carrier are centered as they can also make this process more difficult.
