Recently started having issues with my A400 xtreme this season. It ran fine for 2 years with zero issues. Took it out for the first time this season and it immediately began to double fire. I removed, checked and cleaned the trigger assembly but it continues to give me issues. Anyone run into this type of issue and what else should I check?

It will either double fire or fire one shell and the firing pin will not reset; but cycle the new round into the chamber. I have tested a new bolt and it continued to have the same issue.

It has this issue with all types of rounds, from 3.5 waterfowl loads to small trap loads. So I dont think its load or shooter related.

Do you really mean that the "firing pin" won't reset, or do you mean that the "hammer" won't reset? If the firing pin protrudes after the firing of the first round, then something is wrong inside the bolt... possibly a broken firing pin or broken firing pin return spring. Either one is a simple fix by means of replacement of the broken part.

OTOH, if the "hammer" is not resetting, that's an issue with the trigger assembly. It could be a broken part or some foreign object/matter has partially fouled the trigger assembly. Swap trigger assemblies if you can't tell by looking at the one in the gun.

What you had was a fan fire. A semi auto doesn't double. Has the trigger been worked on? Stock firmly into the shoulder? Are you fully releasing the trigger with the finger after the first shot? Using a bulky jacket or gloves? The more common cause of a fan fire is the shooter holding the gun too loose and the gun bounces off the shoulder and fires the second shot as the trigger rebounds back into the trigger finger.

Been shooting this gun for 2 seasons no issues; its not shooter error. Ive given it to another shooter and the same thing happened as well. Its something mechanical within the gun; as much as i wish it wasnt.

I would pull the trigger group and hose it down with CLP and blow it out. You may have something in the area of the sear and hammer. After you soak and blow off, with the trigger out, fire it a couple times catching the hammer so it doesn't fall all the way forward. If that doesn't work borrow another trigger group if you can find one.
