I would say if you have alliant steel to use with lead shot you could sell the alliant steel for twice the amount of good lead shot powders due to its scarcity.

Yes you can use it for lead shot......BUT it will be a heavy load such as 1 1/2 oz. Or a buffered lead load.

I use Steel powder in a 16 gauge 1 1/4 oz. buffered lead load.

Alliant Steel is rated significantly slower on the burn rate chart than Alliant Pro Reach and Hodgden Longshot. So you're limited to heavy or fast reloads.

 

Burn rate chart isn't an accurate way to determine a powders usage
Going by burn rate is, asking for trouble

 

there are a few very good 10ga steel powder leadshot loads

 

I use it for 20ga lead

 

The burn chart I have shows Steel slower than 2400, but faster than HS7 or Lil Gun.

The only potentially appropriate loadings (pending necessary lab testing) might be extremely heavy/fast magnum 12ga, or maybe 410.

There won't be any book loads for lead, so you'd be on your own to have them professional pressure tested first.
