Anyone have experience with a Richland 810 O/U 10ga?

I was recently looking around my local gun shop and happened upon a very nice looking Richland 810 over/under double barrel 10 gauge. As I have been interested in acquiring a 10 gauge as of late, this caught my eye rather quickly. I'm not very familiar with the company, but what I do know is that they were an importer of various Italian and Spanish firearms, based out of Michigan, and went out of business sometime in the early-mid 80s.

The particular gun I am looking at is an Italian import, and the side of the barrel is marked "10 Gauge, 3 1/2" Chamber, Mod". My assumption is that the "Mod" implies that it has fixed modified chokes. That said, I've seen other forums where people were stating that theirs had removable choke tubes. Does anyone know if that was an option, or if they're all removable tubes? And if that's the case, why would the barrel be marked as it is? In all honesty I was hoping it would be able to handle steel shot, so that I could use it as a goose gun, and I'm not sure I'd want to do that if the chokes are removable. I would have asked the guy at the gun shop, but I didn't read about choke tubes until after I began researching into it.

If anyone has any experience with this shotgun I would be happy for any information. I always like being able to make an informed decision when it comes to firearms purchases.

I have seen a handful of them and shot a couple. They have pretty stout recoil, more than I cared for. The greatest issue I seem to recall is something to do with the trigger springs as two of the owners seemed to be proud that they had the springs changed to coil. But, being a 10 ga, not many shells are fired through one per year so longevity is a question. I further that as Richland was merely an importer and this was a rather poor era for such companies as evidenced by so many going out of business or changing names/ownership.

Those I have seen all had Full and Full for chokes and don't recall seeing anything different in old gun Digest catalogs. I would bet the vast majority of these guns will have fixed chokes- likely Full- as they were made and sold long before non-toxic shot was mandated everywhere as well as being made before screw in chokes became popular.

I had a 711 - the SxS version. Very solid. Handled a little bit better than the Matador I also tried. Better pad too. But both were just too darned heavy when all was said and done. My last foray before tungsten arrived was a machined lightened BPS and it was by far the best. I do not know why gun manufacturers think we need three more pounds of gun to shoot a bit more shot with a 10 gauge.
