I’m new to this forum, excited to be a part.
I’ve recently came across some articles about Belgian singles and doubles referred to as the poachers companion, also sometimes called a garden gun or a rook gun.
When I did a search, this site came up with a post from 2010.
From what I’ve read, they were mass produced in Europe, mainly in Belgium in the 1930s and most only bear proof marks and no maker’s name.
They are small framed and light and fold in half. They have exposed hammers and a lever on the right side that opens up the breech.
Does anyone have experience with one of these ?
Do they shoot modern cartridges?
How common or uncommon are these in this country?
I’d like to get my hands on one and shoot a few ground squirrels tearing up my property. I’d also like to get into hunting waterfowl and hang it over the mantle when not in use.
Does anyone out there know where I might come across our?
I’ll try to post a few pictures if I can figure it out, kinda technically challenged.
Thank you for your help, Tom

Good morning, nowell,
I’m not sure if this is a response to my post, I’m still trying to find my way on forums and how to use them.
In your post, these look to be pretty sweet rifles!
I’m looking for the poacher antique rifles and am mainly interested in the antique & curio and relics from the late 1800s to the depression era.
Thank you for responding to my post, Tom

I would love to see it!
Any idea how he came across it?
Has he fired it and will it take modern shells, or does he have to load shells with less powder?
I’ve gone to a few gun shows so far looking for one, only one vendor said he has seen them.
He had antique arms for sale and maybe that’s why he noticed them where as folks more into the modern guns might not give them a second glance.
Please let me know if you can shoot it with modern rounds!
Thank you for responding to my post !
