I have a S686 "Special". I am having a hard time identifying it's value. Everyone keep saying something like "you mean a silver pigeon" or something like that. The only markings are on the underside of the receiver and it says S686 Special. It is a 12 Ga, 28" O/U with removable chokes in pretty much new condition with the original box and paperwork. On Gunbroker right now some guy is trying to pass his gun identical to mine as "Custom" and a "show gun" at a price of $1850. This has to be way high.

Can anyone give me a price I could reasonably expect to get selling this gun or if I had to replace it with the same thing? Any help would be more than what I have!

Thanks!

The Blue Book lists a 686 Special Sporting, with a note that says it is marked "Model S686 Special" and also the barrels are marked "Sporting". Made 1987-92.

Condition 95% 98% 100%
Value $950 $1100 $1474

That is good! I just bought it for $745 + tax. I knew it was good deal just not sure how good. Only concern I have is that mine does not say "Sporting" on the barrels. Funny thing is the gun is awefully light for a sporting gun. Did sporting back then mean clays and skeet and such like it is now?

Anyway, MrBen, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

I'm not sure whether Beretta uses the term "sporting" in reference to all the clay target sports or specifically to sporting clays, but it definitely means a clay target gun as opposed to a field (hunting) gun.

Sounds like you got a good deal on a good gun. Congratulations!
