Can anyone suggest a automotive brake cleaner that is safe for the camo finish on a synthetic stock shotgun?

Brand name or what chemicals to look for/or avoid would be great. I can't justify spending that mush on synthetic safe gun scrubber anymore.

Bluegoose, I used to have the same reaction as you. After smudging a few stocks even being extremely careful as well as getting hallucinations from the smell of Gumout and brake cleaner, I decided that my brain and liver were worth more than a $1.50. Yeh the stuff isn't cheap but as I posted previously, it dosen't stink, in fact it has no smell at all which lets me clean the guns indoors without being banished to a cold garage. It is as the commercial says "priceless". GJ

In general, you want a brake cleaner that is non-chlorinated. Test in an inconspicuous area before getting it on any painted or dipped finish.

However, I would advise to not use any brake or carb cleaners for gun cleaning chores. First, not sure why you need such a strong solvent. is your gun that dirty??? Mineral spirits should cover it. Second, it's bad stuff to breath in. Very bad...
