Cataract surgery

Here is a question I am asking for a friend who is to have cataract surgery. Has anyone opted for the Symfony mono vision lenses? As a shooter he doesn't want to take a chance that might screw up his shooting.

I had my eye surgeon to put distance lens in my shooting eye and reading lens in my left eye. I don't have a clue what brand they are. I can't tell the difference from when I wore glasses. The brain compensates for the difference, I'm told by the surgeon. I love that I can shoot and read without glasses.

I had lasik surgery in 2000 and had the eyes fixed the same way. Cataract surgery was in 2011. My surgeon told me that he does this type surgery frequently.

I'll be having surgery soon. My wife (a shooter) has had both eyes done. She, her doctor, I and most serious shooters generally agree that both eyes with distance only lenses is preferable.

The use of cheaters for close up/reading is the price you will pay for the best stereoscopic distance vision.

This is my non-medical opinion. As mentioned above it would be best to discuss the particulars with your own physician.

I just finished having both eyes done. It's the closest thing to the fountain of youth that you will see in this world. My results were spectacular. I chose both eyes to have distance lenses. I threw away my glasses and use readers occasionally but I can read within a foot of my eyes pretty well. Night driving vision is the biggest benefit. I had quit driving at night. Shooting is also improved.

Just had cataract surgery on my dominate right eye resulting in 20/25 vision (post op about 14 days). The doctor told me my vision might improve more. Anybody experience their sight improving more with time? Has the procedure helped your scores improve?
Looking forward to getting the other eye done this month.
Thanks,
Jim

And it might get a little worse. After a few months, I ended up with just a touch of astigmatism and just a bit of correction. Still beats heck out of what I had before. I've had left eye problems for fifty years and have a stage 4 cataract that nobody wanted to mess with. Finally found a guy who will give it a go. I've been blind in it for years. I won't be close to 20-20, but I can't wait to get it done! Only 10 days to go.

Mine has been steady but slow improvement each year for the 6 years since surgery. I really don't remember (if I ever knew) what lenses I have, but I see amazingly well in both eyes - both near and far. I no longer use glasses at all, and shooting has been much, much better. The doctor has been surprised, especially regarding the ability to see well both near and far.

I had the surgery three years ago and the doctor recommended Crystalens which provided far, intermediate and near sight.

The downside is that I am right handed and had a right master eye my whole life. A few months after the surgery my skeet shooting average went from 80/100 to 60/100. I had two hours with an instructor who told me that I had a floating master eye that goes back and forth.

He recommended low gun and added an left eye occluder to my glasses. I didn't have a great deal of success, though. In all fairness, I may not have tried the change(s) for a long enough period. I now shoot a lot less often but I am working on getting over my self-pitying sulk.

I can see great, drive at night, and need reading glasses in other than strong light. I would certainly do it over again, it was worth it.

I had mine done and when the Dr. asked what I wanted I said what are the options. One eye close one for distance. I said don't they have one that will work both? He said if they did that would be everyones choice.
Being head of Emory's eye group I said distance and it was done. I got 20'20 left eye and 20/15 right. After 5 years I still have 20/20 in both. I need readers in low light restaurants.

I had given up target shooting and only hunted to be out there and spend time with my sons and friends. I was about to quit carting the gun altogether. After getting both eyes done with the distance lenses I can shoot again. I have 20/20 and only need cheaters to read with. I'm smiling just thinking about it.
