Classic Doubles 92?

Who made and imported an O/U roll marked Classic Doubles 92?

It is a 30" barreled, 12 ga O/U with a well made action, plainish wood, ported, with interchangable choke tubes. Action finish is a bright well done blue. VR rib is fairly wide and attached to barrels that have 'cooling' slots between the barrels.

The serial number is stamped on the top right side of the action.

And, of course, what might it's price range/value be?

The Classic Doubles were the final last gasp of the Olin/Kodensa plant in Japan. The Model 23s and the 101s came from there as well as the Classic Doubles. Hmmmm? But now that I think of it, I thought all the Classic doubles mimicked the Winchester model numbers and the only Winchester I recall being a '92 was a short action lever action rifle. Maybe I'm all wet here, but I thought all Classic Doubles were made in the plant in Japan, were identical to the Winchester and the Nikko and were distributed by Classic Doubles out of St. Louis. Had to be in the mid to late '70s I think. Classic Doubles was a very short lived operation. I have one of their top single 101 Trap models. Does it say made in Japan on the barrel?

I suppose the Fjestad blue book may describe it. I'll look later and let you know if I find something if it is different than what I just mentioned or if someone else who may know more than I replies correctly.

Hello Burnt Powder,

I went down the Win/Olin path first, but after an hour of so of seaching believe that this is a Marocchi Classic Doubles 92.

The action looks similar to the Valmet 5xx. Kind of a plain gun but the opperation of the action is very smooth, with a solid lock up.

Know anything about Marocchi?

Fish Springs;

I believe the Classic Doubles you are referring to most likely is a Marocchi made shotgun. I think it in no way was related to the Classic Doubles that was the successor of the Winchester/Nikko shotguns. Fjestad's made no mention whatever to the Model 92, only the Japanese guns. I know very little about Marrochi, except I've seen some models priced very high and some quite inexpensively. I suspect they have a wide range of models and qualities. I think Friggon used to have Marrochi make the shotguns he marketed some years back. Not real popular in these parts, but.....

Hi Burnt Powder,

I received a catalog from Marocchi in response to my e-mail. They were kind and sent a copy of thier 1990's catalog with the Classic Doubles 92 in it.

It is a nice gun and apparently the same action as on the Valmet shotguns as the site references providing that gun as an OEM product
