I am looking for a shotgun for my grandson, and I am interested in the 720 Youth. Does anyone have any experience with it?
Reliability of the 720/712 in general. I have read the long term testing of the 9112 here, but nothing much on the 720.RichBandit said:What kind of info are you looking for? The working parts of the 720 youth and the same as the 720. The youth model has a shorter length of pull and a shorter barrel. Otherwise they are identical guns. Let me know if you have any other questions.papaac said:I am looking for a shotgun for my grandson, and I am interested in the 720 Youth. Does anyone have any experience with it?
Steve, I think 250 rounds is good enough for me. I just need to check pricing with a few dealers. Thanks for the comments.Steve B said:I have a cz 720. It was bought 4/1/11. I have about 250 rounds through it. It is a real nice gun so far. It fits me good. It is a soft shooter. It is nice enough looking, nice wood. I have shot 3 inch mags, 2.75 inch mags, and soft target loads, all with no problems. No jams, no fail to fire, no fail to eject. All that said I don't have enough rounds shot to say how reliable it is, or is not. Maybe after another 2 or 3 thousand more shots I will know. But so far I like to shoot it. The gun seems well built, but time will tell. Good luck finding a gun for the grandson. Steve
One other thing, if it is anything like the 912, and I am guessing from what I have learned it is very much the same gun with a few changes, you will have to give it a good cleaning at a minimum about every 200 rounds, if you are like me and clean it every time you shoot it, you will have no problemspapaac said:Steve, I think 250 rounds is good enough for me. Steve, the site I looked at was about the same price. CDNN runs crazy sales from time to time, so I am going to "hide and watch" for awhile. Thanks for the comments.Steve B said:papaac, I paid $420.00 out the door for mine at the Cabelas in Richfield WI, but it was on sale, and they had to get it from another store. I did not see a youth model so I would not know the price on those. Mine is the standard 720 not the youth. Also cdb I have not cleaned it since I gave it good cleaning out of the box. I was going to wait and see if I could go a little longer. The gun is a breeze to clean. I like that the action spring is on the magazine tube that way you don't have to take the stock off to clean it. My Extrema 2 is the same way, and is one of the reasons I bought it. Steve
Thanks, I saw him touted here the other day, and I put him in my bookmarks. I have a friendly FFL who does my transfers free.2fewdaysafield said:papaac....

I Got my 912 from him, and he was great to deal with, I would not hesitate to call upon him again for a purchase.papaac said:Thanks, I saw him touted here the other day, and I put him in my bookmarks. I have a friendly FFL who does my transfers free.2fewdaysafield said:papaac....

Jason will do you right on any CZ gun! He's pretty tight with CZ-USA headquarters.....he picks up his guns in person instead of buying through a distributor so he has access to anything CZ-USA has in stock and offers excellent pricing.papaac said:Thanks, I saw him touted here the other day, and I put him in my bookmarks. Thanks for the information. A friend is going to loan me the Turkish made 20 gauge youth model that his son has outgrown. If the fit seems right, I will be contacting Jason.2fewdaysafield said:Jason will do you right on any CZ gun! If you decide to buy through him, be sure to mention that Kris Littledale (2fewdaysafield) from Falls Village, Ct sent you. Won't get you a better price, but he does seem to go out of his way to take good care of customers I send him.
Best....2few
Steve, does your 720 have an O-ring on the magazine tube like the 1100 does? Mine has one in a groove inside the barrel hanger/piston housing, but not one like shown on the 712Steve B said:I have a cz 720. It was bought 4/1/11. I have about 250 rounds through it. Can anyone answer this for me? I called CZ, told them there was no O-ring, and they sent me some, but it looks like it is the one inside the barrel hanger. It's hard to tell from the schematic furnished in the owner's manual.papaac said:Steve, does the 712/720 have an O-ring on the magazine tube like the 1100 does? Bad things about O-rings are heard from people with little or no experience with them. I was discussing shotguns with a friend at church, and he said he didn't like the Remington Model 1100 and 11/87 because of all the O-rings they used. He was surprised to learn that they used only one.cdbeagle said:I'm interested in one for my daughter but have always heard bad things about O rings, mainly remington of course. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the Mossberg SA-20 b/c it doesn't have O rings.
