I have an older Remington 870 Wingmaster, 12 gauge, 3". I need help in finding out the month and year this was manufactured? I'm guessing the month is January? The year ??
I have the barrel codes? BD

B = January
D = either 1957 or 1983
now look at your serial number.
If your serial number does not begin with a letter prefix then your gun is a 1957
If your serial number begins with a "V" or possibly a "W" prefix then it is a 1983
if your gun is indeed a magnum then the serial will end with the letter "M"

I can also tell by the checkering if you were to post a picture

I like my guns, a lot, but I have never considered dating them, could sound a bit kinky :eek:
I have a 300 Savage that belonged to my Grandfather that was new in 1926. The Remington 550-1 that belonged to my dad was new in 1947. My M31 that I bought used from someone I have never met, was new in 1939.

I find these facts fascinating.

Wingmasters are ageless. It's much more about the respect their handlers have shown them, than the decade they were built during.
