I know about the Faustis built for Traditions, Cabela's and Weatherby, but what about the Fausti's built for their own line? I've looked at these guns online for several years and always look for them in gun shops but never see them. I was browsing their Italian website on my lunch break earlier and there is a disclaimer stating that they are the manufacturer and distributors of Rizzini as well. Do they compare to something like a Beretta 68X? Or are they not worth a good look? I'm not but a few hours from their show room in Fredericksburg, and have been thinking of driving up to have a look around one Friday.

As I'm sure you'll see from your visit, Fausti makes guns to just about every price point. They offer some absolutely gorgeous doubles with any option you'd like but you'll pay for the workmanship involved. Have fun. Someone once advised to buy the gun not the brand - that holds true for many Spanish and Italian guns.

I'm really starting to look forward to the trip. I got a little impatient waiting for Steve to email me back about a couple questions, so I called and got the answering service. He'll be back Monday, so I'll just call then. I've been drooling over the looks of some of their guns for a few years now, so I guess I should at least give myself the chance to see what they have to offer.

I think that Fausti has abandoned the low end. Their current offerings are nice, and move up from there.

In O/Us, they have scaled 16s, scaled 28s, and rounded actions, too.

My only disappointment is that they use the standard Brescia underlug action, rather than improving on their short-lived four-point high lockup. I wish they'd taken that design further. That said, a scaled 16 from them should still be sleeker than a Citori 16, and there aren't a lot of other 16 Gauge choices for those who want one (just like Beretta baby frame 28s -- there's nothing comprable until you go way up the price scale).

Their side-by-sides handle very well. The basic ones offer the features one might expect from a modern Italian gun, like screw-in chokes and monobloc construction, so they're quite different from, say, an AyA, at least to the educated eye. In feel, IMO they're pretty similar, which is a compliment.

Would love to hear your impressions. :)

I spoke with them at the Dallas Safari Convention. You are essentially getting a custom built shotgun to your specifications at a price point that is hard to match with other makers.

I seriously considered getting fitted for one of their custom shotguns while at the DSC for delivery about 8 months later. If you have ~$4K for a shotgun, you are going to get a lot for your money and have a family treasure that will be valued by your grandchildren as they try to wear it out too.

Their "rack" guns are pretty nice as well but, do yourself a favor and wait for a big show to bring the Italian gentleman over and speak with him before you spend your money.

Fausti and the E Rizzini line are one company - they still build lower price point guns; they also build a lot of parts for others
