I WAS THINKING OF GOING FROM KENT SHELLS TO HEAVY SHOT HEAVY METAL SHELLS. HAS ANYONE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THEM? I READ THE REVIEWS ON CABELAS WEBSITE AND IT SEEMS TO BE 50/50 GOOD AND BAD. SEVERAL GUYS ARE SAYING THAT THEY CUT THEM OPEN AND WERE DISSAPOINTED TO FIND SMALL SHOT LIKE 6 OR 7 SHOT MIXED IN. IM SURE ITS LIKE ANYTHING, CANT PLEASE EVERYONE.

My hunting partner and I have used heavy metal the past 2 seasons. We find it to work very well. Bottom line you will have to buy a box and spend a day at the patterning board. You could spend $$$$$$ but it wont mean squat if it doesent pattern well through your gun/choke combo.

I shot about 6 boxes of Heavy metal last year to kick off my season. I felt like it was a quality load. I would compare it to Drylock s as far as performance. Long story short the smaller hevi shot pellets in the heavy metal loads are matching the ballistics of their larger, lighter, steel shot partners. So in the end you are still shooting the same individual pellet energy but its just more of them in one shell compared to a 1 1/4 oz load of all steel shot.

Me and my goose partner got a few boxes last season, i only shot half of a box because i had some other stuff i wanted to shoot up. So i didnt shoot enough to form an opinion. but my buddy said he didnt like them. he said he would see feather fly out of a bird that he had hit, but the bird would keep going. (now that could have been just him shooting bad...who knows?) but im looking forward to putting the other box and a half of mine down range this season.....will tell you one thing.....they kick really hard.

We used mostly Kent last year and I also experimented with the HeviMetal as well. I was happy with the Kent shells, but HeviMetal was impressive and my son and I plan to use it next season. With the success in the duck blind, we patterned their turkey loads as well this year and switched to the HeviShot Magnum Blend.

I bought two boxes of #2's one 3" and one 3.5" and went to the patterning board with them I put them up against Federal Black Cloud, Federal Premium, Remington Nitro Mag, Winchester Supreme Vs some old patterns with Kent.
I put them through a Wingmaster LC barrel and a SBE II using a combo of Trulock, Carlsons and Factory chokes.
This is what I found looking for the best factory 3" steel #2.
#1. Remington, Very good quality components, patterned very tight.
#2. Federal, Tie between the Premium and BC, but I chose the Prem. for the higher pellet
count and no issues with the Flight Control wad.
#3. Winchester Supreme, Not on the same level as Fed. or Rem.
#4. Kent, Cheaper quality components did not pattern nearly as well as the others.
#5. Hevi-Metal, By far the worst patterns of all shells tested no consistancy to the patterns with any choke tested, Crimp is open and not sealed at all. Waterproofing = 0

I called Environ Metals and talked to some folks there they were very nice! and they sent a new box for me to try from another lot but I had the same result, every wad either hit the patterning board or passed it (@40Yrd) and when recovered they had shot still stuck in them, If they change the wad they might be on to something but right now they are a waste of money I will not take take them to the blind and risk crippling birds with them.

HeviShot/HeviMetal flat out fattens birds. It's one of those loads that will leave you walking back to the truck with you back bowed and chest out. Got about 5 boxes of Remington
Premiere #6 HeviShot left to burn, 1 case of #2 and 1 case #3 HeviMetal 3" 12 ga, and a case of HeviMetal BB for my 10 ga. Beak em.....

The only way to know is to pattern them, I had very poor results but you may have better luck with your gun. I'm a very big fan of Hevi-13 and shoot it often, I had very high hopes for the Hevi-Metal but the patterning board told me to run away :D if they get them sorted out I will jump back on, I like suporting the little guy but... the remainder of the three boxes I have will either be sold to buddies who believe the hype or they will collect dust  $50.00 bucks wasted.
