Does anyone know what is really going on with West Bend Barton and care to share the info? The very nicely produced 2020 WSCA shoot schedule appeared today and it was great to see Milford and Winchester reappearing/increasing their tournaments but I did not see anything from WBB although they are still WSCA members. I was aware last year that there were issues and there were a number of rumors passed around. The last 2-3 years they have done a tremendous job throwing excellent targets on a great piece of land. It would be wonderful if they could continue.

West Bend Barton is currently still with the WSCA. That is good although I realize there are a number of WSCA clubs that do not offer NSCA targets. I noticed they have a sporting clays league chairman but not a sporting clays competition (NSCA) chairman. That does not sound good.

The club has been around for a long time and has obviously done a number of things correctly. As I said previously, they also did a great job with their registered clays program. I can only hope their plans include restarting it. It was always an enjoyable and challenging club to shoot at.

Dick, a lack of shooters is not the issue. WBB did participate in the Southern Man 400 and they attracted 148 shooters to the club. At a regular, monthly shoot the parking is full, carts are everywhere, there is a wait for the 5 Stand and you generally must wait for the squad ahead to clear the stand before shooting. Great land, good targets, friendly people and an included lunch (brats….of course) will do that. They are also only an hour N of Milwaukee and its many suburbs.

This is purely an internal issue with the WBB Board and personalities. The SC was successful shoots in the past, they made revenue, and shooters enjoyed their targets. Nothing to do with proximity to Milwaukee or northern Illinois and drawing participants- they had that covered.

When people continue give time and effort to their volunteer run clubs and they are not appreciated or valued by the board, other members or disciplines, they leave or are pushed out by people that think the know better.

it's a shame to loose this club, I was really hoping that they would be back for 2020 as I shoot with some guys that are members there, and they all pointed and said 2020 should be a go with registered shoots, I got the calendar like everyone else and was really disappointed to see that they weren't on there.

I'll also echo that it seems to be a battle internally there within the membership.

Our club wasn't there either, but we answered emails prior to the meeting regarding our past dates and possible future dates. I don't think that attendance is mandatory - but actually being/wanting to be engaged in the scheduling process is a requirement.

With the number of shoots in the southern portion of the state, the 100-mile rule is going to come in to play more often. It looks as though clubs are claiming their normal weekend of the month, then adding in their special/larger events. It is leaving fewer available dates to throw registered for clubs not on the schedule.

Hope that they can come back in to the rotation.

Perhaps ask the person of interest?

Thinking the first name sounds like a long K and the last name sounds like a D.Only if we had the info and didn't pretend to not know why this is happening.

Posting for a friend and he thanks all that respond.

Head in sand and let's all pretend its all good.

This is from what I understand happened. It is unfortunate, but what sometimes happens with clubs of various shooting leagues/disciplines at the same venue.

Of the club leagues that were being run, the Sporting Clays league was not being self sustained as far as profitability, among other things. Obviously Sporting Clays courses require significant participation to recover the costs involved, even if the personnel support is voluntary. Those registered shoots were very profitable for the club and drew plenty of participants to be worth while. The conflict arose from when the participants running the Sporting Clays league, were also running the registered shoots. When it was made an issue as far as the leagues carrying their weight, it became a personality conflict among the board and directors. The rest is shall we say, history.

Hopefully in the near future the registered shoots can become a reality again. May take some time to get it back. It seems this club has always been at odds between the Trap shooting and Sporting Clays venues.
