My goal is to have a 16 gauge Ithaca model 37 for this fall. I have a few in 20 and a couple in 12, but I desperately need a 16. I still think it is the best upland gauge hands down.

I recently started shooting and reloading the 16 ga. and I really have taken a liking to that gauge. My only complaint is that it is hard to find good hulls for reloading. About the best I have run across is the primed cheddite hull which I buy from Ballistic Products. My favorite is a 1955 Sweet 16 which I have restored to like new condition. Although it has a Poly Choke, it is still a really nice gun which I enjoy shooting. I also have a BPS Upland Special

Current 16's are:

Two 16 gauge Citori Lightning Feathers with 28-inch barrels.

A 16 gauge Citori Lightning Grade III with 28-inch barrels.

A 16 gauge Citori Gran Lightning with 28-inch barrels.

A 16 gauge Remington 870 with extra barrels.

Three Sweet 16's with a bunch of extra barrels.

A 16 gauge Remington 11-48.

A 16 gauge Winchester Model 12.

Congratulations oldshot! I think you'll like that 311. They make fin fine rabbit and bob white quail guns. And they won't break the bank like some doubles can.

I have a BPS 16 gauge and two Model 12 16's on of which my great grandpa left me when he died. That is the gun that really got me into bird hunting and collecting. I shoot everything from doves, ducks, geese and even turkey with my 16 even though I have a few 12's, 20's and a 28 the 16's re the ones that see the most work. I can get loads as smal as 7/8 or as heavy as 1 1/4 and also steel is easily available on line now as well as bismuth, so you cant beat them as far as versatility goes.

I shoot 16's I prefer the SA's and Pumps, 1100 16, 2 870 16's, Citori 525 16, and an old H&R 16 Single Shot.

1. SxS Ithaca flues 16 ' for sale'
1. SxS lefever nitro 16
1. O/U AYA coral 16
1. SxS ringneck 16
1. SxS AYA no.2 16
1. pump model 12 16
1. still in state custody (10 day waiting period) tristar o/u 16 brand spanking new.

I grew up with the 16 model 12 above, so it's no surprise I have a fondness in my heart for them. I have 12's, 20's and 28's but I keep going back to the 16's. My fav. was the coral that I hunted for many years over my first hunting dog. I actually bought the gun just to hunt over her. She's gone now, and I haven't shot the coral since.

Enter new pups and I bought a 16 aya SxS to hunt over them. I think the fausi sister Barbra coined the perfect word for a nice 16, "elegant". The only part of my life that is elegant . I kind of like that.

Thanks wyo, I have told the story before but in a nut shell. I was searching for a nice SxS to use to hunt over my little pup when I got her. I found within a couple months the Ithaca 16 and later the lefever 16, but they were just not right. found a small mom and pop gun store not far from my house and went and checked it out. I really liked the place, the owner was old the shop was old. the counter had a couple bar stools on our side, as to invite a person to sit relax for awhile.

I did sit and relax, asked the owner if he had any older SxS 16's, he thought a min and then said no. We talked awhile, I told him why I wanted the SxS 16. He thought that was real neat. Then he said wait I have something in the back, let me go get it.

Well he walked out from the back room with a mutton case old leather beat up a bit. Placed a piece of carpet on the counter in front of me. First out was the barrel's and fore arm, that looked pretty good, but then the stock came out, I was floored.

I couldn't hardly stand up. He put the gun together and handed it to me. I would have paid him anything he wanted for it, even though it was an over under, it was perfect to me. He couldn't give me a price he didn't remember what he paid for it, He had no record of it. He saw how bad I wanted it, so he asked if I had anything to trade for it. First I said my wife, he already had one of those so, no. Then I said I had my dad's 45 acp revolver with moon clips from ww1 my dad collected. I said that and 500 dollars, he said no, he thought I was paying too much. He took the revolver, and a couple hundred bucks and it was mine.

I still have it, I'll never sell it. but haven't fired it in 9 years since Bridgette died. Every now and then I want to take it out and shoot it. But cant yet I guess. Some day. She's as sweet to carry and shoot as she is in looks. English stock two triggers and i/c and mod choked. 27 inch barrels, weighs nothing. Now I want to shoot it again.
