They look badass, which is the first criteria in picking a choke, but since I am late to the party, what is the general opinion on them for sporting clays? Are they the different from comp n choke or just different looking?

Kicks Smoke Chokes and Comp-N-Choke both break targets very well.

The Comp-N-Choke have perpendicular slots for venting and the Kicks have angled ports for venting.

They are owned and run by father and son. The dad makes Comp-N-Choke and the son makes Kicks. The quality of both are excellent.

I have used both and do like their patterns and target breaks but have changed to another brand because I could not put up with the external fowling. They are very dirty to use and clean and your fingers get really dirty during a shoot if you need to change a choke. On an O/U the carbon build up is really bad.

Kicks has now come out with a new series called the Tom Mack series. They have no porting, are marked by one, two, or three rings on the external barrel and the constrictions are designated as: close - medium - and far. I think this system is a great design and really simplifies choke selection. Not sure how many makes of guns he has these chokes available for as yet.

I shoot them in my 391 autos and like them a lot. (FWIW, Pure Gold are in the same class, but are from an unrelated manufacturer.) They pattern extremely well, though be aware about ½ step tighter than conventional chokes of the same constriction. The ports stay relatively clean inside as the pressure from the shot charge keeps them pretty well blown clear. However, they do gunk up on the outside because of the ports. Not horrible as a squirt of RemOil or WD40 or Q-Maxx cleans them off ASAP. That said, I do NOT like ported chokes on my O/U's because the crap from one choke cakes up on the choke above it and vice-versa, building a healthy bridge of crap between them.

If you need more weight on the front end, buy Kicks or Pure Gold. If you want less weight, Muller. They all shoot about the same as do Briley Plasma. Don't know your gun but your factory chokes are probably ok. Shoot more, get a good instructor that you can connect with, get a prof. gun fit, and then shoot more again. When you just need a punch or two to make Master Class, look for some out of this world choke to push you over the line. It's all in the journey.

I bought 3 of them to go with my new Beretta A400 - a skeet, IC, and mod. What sold me was the Style Series. I needed something snazzy to go with the Smurf blue on the Beretta receiver. My skeet is pink, IC is yellow, and the Mod is orange. Thought I was going to use the IC most of the time, but the skeet really busts up most presentations really well, and the multi-colored honeycomb finish is a real conversation starter. I like these chokes a lot. They are well made, and effective.

Jack, have to agree on the Kick/Smoke chokes. Tried a IC yesterday with a Fabarm XLR5 Sporting with 7/8 oz. reloads @ 1300 fps. on a good sporting course and the performance was comparable to the factory Fabarm Mod. Good breaks out to 45 yds. With premium ammo and a spreader, probably would not have to change it in a 100 bird event.

I've had conversation with Charlie and extensive conversations with the son (can't pull name out of memory bank). Comp N Choke worked good for me when I shot them at Sporting. Once I went to Skeet they tin walled a Super X-1 for me. Chokes for 390 too. Good guys.
