why don't kolars get any love on this site?

Because relatively very few people shoot them.

There are several avid Kolar shooters on the Skeet Forum, but there just aren't that many Kolar shooters overall.

If there are, they're just not very vocal.

I can't say how many Blaser shooters there are out there in comparison with Kolar shooters, but the few of us there are are dedicated enough and noisy enough that we got our own Forum here on the board.

Of course, that was a logical outgrowth of a relatively high degree of interest in the Blaser shotgun from skeet shooters, sporting shooters and even a few trap shooters now that Blaser has introduced a trap combo.

I like Kolars and even spent a couple of weeks shooting one to get a good feel for them. If I had extra money laying around I'd not hesitate to buy one and enjoy shooting it regularly.

But I just don't think there are that many Kolar shooters out there. It would be interesting to see production figures from Kolar since they started producing their guns to see how many they've made.

I think that a fair amount of the Kolars that have been sold, percentage wise, have been trap guns. There is a very popular website for trapshooters and the majority of discussion about Kolars being used for trap would take place there.

This is a nice web site; something for everybody, but it is much more of a general catch-all type site and most trapshooters (and expecially ATA shooters) tend to post there instead of on sites like this one. Kolars have been discussed quite a lot there, and since they introduced a mid-single last year, there will be even more in the future.

all i am hearing is that kolars are mainly shot by trap shooters and the reast are not very vocal and now you guys are says there great guns and with a few more buck in your pocket you would have at least one however why do they get bashed to he** everytime they are compared to perazzi or K80

I have to disagree with Mike P. about not a lot of Kolars being shot. In the mid-atlantic region where I live you see a lot of Kolars in skeet tournaments. As said before, they also sell a lot of trap guns and they are discussed extensively on trap sites.

I have both a Kolar and recently pieced together a nifty k80 two barrel tubed set (for reasons I still can't explain even to myself...but I do like it).

I see absolutely no reason to disparage one of these guns against another. I personally think they are both exceptional skeet guns.

Now, I don't see many Kolars on the SC courses....but I don't see that many k80s out there either. Both are often considered rather blocky and heavy guns by SC folks, but its all personal preference.

I will say that the Kolar is the T-34 tank of shotguns. If you can break one, you must be damn hard on machinery.

For me the decision between a Kolar and a Perrazzi was easy. I went with the K80.
Ditto
Me 3. *LOVE* my K-80. I like Kolars too, but I wouldn't buy one because of the poor resale value.

I'm a big fan of Perazzi trap guns, but I haven't found a Perazzi skeet gun that felt right to me yet...

I have yet to find anything else that has a trigger that is even CLOSE to as good as a K-80

Kolar is the dominant high end trap gun where I shoot but not many seen on the skeet field. I have one of each and am happy with my choice. Any high end gun takes a hit on resale and I don't know if Kolar is any worse than others. Take a look sometime on trapshooters.com. Many of the Kolar guns were custom fitted from the factory and that could easily be the reason why they may seem to be tougher to sell.c Mine are not for sale so I don't worry about it. As for numbers, my skeet gun has a serial number in the 1600 range and is a bit over three years old. A shooting buddy was told by Kolar last year that production was less than 2500 guns of all models. I know they told me they would make only 200 of the new TS model in the first year. I read recently that Perazzi makes about 10 shotguns a day and if Krieghoff is in the same ballpark, then Kolar's numbers are quite low in comarison.

Probably your location has a lot to do with the large number of Kolars in your area (Wisconsin). I know there are a lot of SC shooters in some parts of the country who haven't even seen a Kemen for example, but since the major importer is in Traverse City, you will run into them around here in Michigan.

As for resale values, I hate to admit it, but I do think that the K-80 has it better than Perazzi and much better than Kolar. A few years ago I sold a K-80 sporting clays gun that I had bought new and it sold quickly and brought a very good price. I own a Perazzi trap combo, and, from what I see, they don't keep their value quite as well. But Kolars and Ljutics seem to be worse in that regard (in general), even though all are great guns.

Just guessing, but around here I am noticing more nice late model boats, motorcycles, etc being set out for sale than usual. With lead prices, and the economy in general here in Michigan, I think that starting this fall, more used guns are going to be showing up all over which will hurt resale values to some extent.

I have always felt that the smaller used market undermines the Kolar resell while the k80 enjoys the opposite situation.

I have serial number 1234 on my Kolar and don't worry about resale value....they will bury me with it.

First off Kolar owners have their own forum site
on SGW. Second, while I'd agree that trap & skeet shooters were/are the majority of shooters who have and shoot Kolar shotguns with the introduction of the Max-lite Sporting Clays guns there has been a significant increase in shooters shooting Kolar guns, including Hall-of-Fame member Jon Kruger and then there is Pat Leiski and Derek Mein. Remember Kolar only builds about 300 to 400 guns a year and that's all models not just Sporting Clays so there are never going to be a large number of shooters shooting them. I've owned P-guns, K-80's, SO5's, Blaser & Browning as well as semi-autos and my Kolar Max-lite is the best built, best balanced and best handling gun I've owned so far. Their customer service is above any of the other competition makers and if you ever try one you will be surprised as to how well they are made and easy to shoot, (my opinion), nothing wrong with a K-80 or Perazzi or Baretta etc. but a new Kolar is not a bad choice either. Interesting that this thread has been resurrected after nearly 9 years. It is especially interesting to me because of the last post before the resurrection by ShootingStar (Mark). I now own Mark's Kolar, along with a new Max Skeet Lite model.

If you should read this, Mark, know that your old Kolar has been a great gun for me and even though I now have a new one as well, they'll probably bury me with both of them! Thanks for getting me started with Kolar; they are magnificent guns from a company with absolutely fantastic customer service.

That certainly made me chuckle. I can buy a used K-80 with a sub gauge tube set for $5k.

The older kolar may not hold their value as well, but the newer Max skeet is doing a fantastic job, good luck finding more than a couple used ones available anywhere. Guys aren't giving them up.

I have 4 K-80s, and the triggers on them are no better than on my Kolar max skeet. I actually tried to switch from the Kolar over to the K-80 as my regular skeet gun, but every time I go back as I feel the Kolar is a much better gun. At least it is for me, everyone has an opinion and they are entitled to it.

There are way more K-80s in circulation for sure!

Both are excellent guns, and we are lucky to be able to shoot them!

I've shot both many times for multiple rounds. My next gun will be a Kolar. I find them impeccable in every way. K-80's are awesome - I wouldn't kick one out of bed for eating crackers.... but Kolar just has the balance and fit for me that puts it over the top. It might be a while... my CG Impacts are serving me well, but the Kolar beckons, and that's just the way it works sometimes :)

John Henry - please keep in mind that most of this tread was from 2007 and the situation is much different today with regard to population of used Kolars and the ability of that population to establish a good used gun price. Back then, though...it was true that K80's held value longer. We are a tradition bound and somewhat conservative group and it takes a while for a high end/high dollar gun to catch on.
