That sure doesn't sound right. .. The lever action on my own 2097 has worked smoothly from the first day. Easy enough to do - I'd pull the action apart again and take another look at the affected area. Perhaps a burr left over from the machining process might be suspect? ..

 

I like my 2097, and I think you will like yours. That isn't normal, but I don't think it's anything serious. The MSRP on that gun is $1485.

The levers are generally offset in them to allow for wear, but it's the first time I've heard of a notchy one. Bearing in mind that you had access to the action when you disabled the automatic safety, is it a possibility that you may have got some crud or a filing in there when you did that?

If I were you, I'd ask in the Gunsmithing froum on here. There are some seriously knowledgeable fellows on there

 

The lever was notchy right out of the box, so my disabling the safety is a non-issue. It behaved exactly the same before and after. I will give the referenced gunsmiths a call and see what they have to say. Thanks everyone so far for all your assistance.

 

Sounds like an oversized or poorly fitted part, but that's OK. Stuff some valve grinding compound in where it's hanging up and work the lever a couple hundred times. Take it apart, clean it, reassemble and repeat. Grease it lightly after you clean it the second time.

 

Called Bachelder and they are willing to make any repairs free of charge under warranty. VERY nice people there. It's a bittersweet situation...I'm look forward to having it fixed, but I'll be without my favorite clay-duster for a couple weeks. Oh well, life could be worse.
