I picked up a mossberg 500 .410 while on tdy in April at a Walmart in Texas. It set me back a whopping $285. I have to say this gun is much better made than the tristar cobra 2 .410 pump . The cobra was totally unreliable but this mossberg has been perfect minus some hulls I screwed up by pressing the rims flat with my sizer. I love the proportions of this gun and shoot it really well. My teenage son came outside to shoot some with me today and was also doing darn near as well as our normal 20 gauge or 12 ga guns as long as we didn’t let the clay get much over 30 yards. I can’t wait till hunting season I’ve already made up some #5 bismuth shot loads for duck season.

I agree, adjustable chokes should be standard now a days but the full choke on my guns would probably get most of the action anyways. It would come in handy for dialing in non-tox loads for sure. I got the little .410 because I thought it was a good deal and would lend itself to cheap and challenging practice. My son blew me away with how well he can shoot that thing, he doesn’t shoot nearly as much as I do but his accuracy is on par with mine. I’m trying to get my wife out there to shoot it, I think the proportions are perfect for her.

I think the Mossberg 500 .410 is a good solid little gun. I agree that chokes would be great. However, if I have to have a fixed choke I am ok with the full choke. It may cost me a couple birds on the skeet range but it works great on rabbits. Also a number of pheasants have been shot with the .410 while rabbit hunting. Fun guns to shoot.

I've never been a fan of the .410, so I can't speak from (much) experience, but a friend whose opinion on shotguns I trust once told me the Mossberg was the better .410 than the 870. He said the Mossberg functioned better. I'm fairly confident he would not have said the same thing about those guns in any other gauge.

I really enjoy the .410 gauge. For me it has proved safe
to shot around the House yard and Barn yard buildings.
I don’t have to worry about ricochets like a .22lr.

With a .410 2-1/2in shell 1/2oz #6shot going 1275fps, so
219 grains of lead is pretty devastating on pests
around the Farm.

I too have a Mossberg pump action. It is the Model
500, the label says 410 bore Crown Grade Bantam
24.0” VR fixed full choke, youth size stock. It is black
with black synthetic stocks.

I really like it; it’s safe to operate, fits nice, aims nice,
no nonsense look, easy to clean and DEPENDABLE!

410 bore shells have not been a problem. I’ve been
through several Administrations, so I have enough
until I pass away.

Go Team 410 Mossberg. Accept no substitutes.

I love my Mossberg 500 in 410, it's easily my favorite shotgun. I want to add a light and upgrade the sights, but my all purpose Mossberg with a 24" barrel isn't drilled and tapped.

Anyone have any good recommendations on parts that work with the 410? I can get anything I ever wanted for my 12 gauge, but there doesn't seem to much available for the 410. I'm ok with gunsmithing, I just need to know what will be compatible

Gentlemen,
Have very little use for a .410 gun, except for gun dog training. However I have been hearing very good reports on all the Mossberg .410 guns, just like here in this thread. I own a Mossberg 28/20 Silver Reserve II Combo Gun that has preformed real well while both shooting clays and dog training. For the money Mossberg is supplying a real decent quality gun.

all the best,

When my kids were about 8 and 10 I tried them with 20 and 28 gauge guns. They were just a little too much.

Bought a 500 410 youth and an extra 18” cylinder bore barrel and they loved it.

Back then Remington sold boxes of 20 .410 2 1/2” shells #6 shot for $6 bucks or less. They shot many backyard clays with those shells.
